O/T Corgi Defiant model - will be ordering one of these!!

Nice... I'm still waiting for a decent 1/48th kit. Beginning to despair.

Did you spot the Defiant prototype in the photo resources I mentioned?

Nigel,
I was lucky to get one of the last 1/48 Classic Defiant kit on Ebay. You should keep an eye out. Wouldn't it be great to talk one of the major W11 art painters like Nicolas Trudgian to do a Defiant painting. Something like it shooting down a Do17z or He111. Wise I had the money to commission it. :-(

"You lucky, lucky bastard!" (Monty Python's Life of Brian)

I missed it - they're expensive, those kits are, even though they do some wonderful stuff. Using it as a model to make the visual for CFS3as well, I guess. That's what I try to do as well, where possible.

That would be a fine painting! I keep trying to get my wife (who is a trained artist, Master of Arts from the Paris Academy, etc, etc) to do one based on a screenie from CFS3 I can set up. One day, she will, and it'll be in that sort of style.

Clive are you a diecast collector?

Not quite Lewis but I do collect Defiants! I haven't made all of these, I did the 1/48 scale kit in the middle and painted the small ones - my modelling skills are't great but I really enjoy making them and being 'hands' on' with the aircraft as it were. There's still a few on Ebay I have my eye on and I narrowly missed getting a genuine ww2 recognition model the other week.

Should I get out more? :icon_lol:

"Monomania" comes to mind... I admit that until I found out what an utterly useless aircraft it really turned out to be, I thought it was fantastic! My ancient Airfix kit was venerated for years and years...

Nigel, you need to get hold of the Alec Brew books and read up on the history of this aircraft, not one of the 'greats' it's true but it played an important part never-the-less.

There are a few myths surrounding the Defiant, the truth is much more interesting eg. 264 sqdn's performance in the BoB was better than some fighter squadrons in terms of kills and losses.
