I've had a ballistic calc app (PSSF) on my PalmOS PDAs for several years. It comes in handy at times.
 
Personally I find scopes distastefull. My tastes in shooting irons runs to old lever action rifles and single action revolvers in both cartridge and percussion flavors using open sights. If it looks like it came out of the old west, then I'll likely be interested. Especially if it's an old time 44 caliber.
 
I have no use for it.

If a deer is too far to shoot using a 4 - 12 scope on a 7mm Rem. Mag. without the need for fancy bullet drop figuring - he's too far.

The last time I looked at my 870 (last Sunday) it didn't have a scope on it. If I can't get the ducks in close enough to shoot without a scope I need to work on something other than my shooting.

Never saw a need for a scope on my Model 19 either.......

Yup, I saw the other post too. You're right on just another thing to break down.

I use my ballistic calc at the reloading bench and at the range when I'm brewing up handloads. It's not something I carry in the field with me...takes too much time to sit down and figger out the math even if I'm just out plinking varmints. A calc can make for a good tool to get to know the trajectory of your load and as a learning tool to read wind.
(Yes, I do enjoy a bit of long-range shooting for both varmints and paper targets.)
 
The trajectory on my 44-40s is easy to figure out. Past 100 yards, just think rainbow :costumes:
