• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

    If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

    Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

Passing of Robert Strickland, founder of CAS

It is with great sadness that I report that my dear friend Robert Strickland, founder of Centers for Airway Science passed away in late September. His work, insight, and dedication to teaching will be sorely missed by everyone involved in the program. The Centers for Airway Science (CAS) website is: http://www.airwayscience.org/index.htm

A Memorial Service is scheduled for Saturday, November 1st at 2 p.m. The Memorial will be at Pearson Air Museum in Vancouver, Washington. Please join us there if you can. You can send your thoughts about Mr. Strickland's work to rhsmemorial@comcast.net. CAS will be posting contributions to this site on a wall at the Memorial. His family requests that you send contributions to Airway Science, PO Box 4142, Portland, OR 97208 rather than flowers.

My condolences to you for the lost of your friend. He leaves behind a legacy that will go on making the world a better place on which to live.

I want to post a part of his obituary: "Because he loved flying, he was successful in obtaining his private pilot license. His love for flying was also a driving force behind the establishment of the Warren Lee Strickland Centers for Airway Science in Portland. The program, endorsed by General Colin Powell and Tiger Woods, provides an environment where practical math, science, and computer applications are emphasized through computerized flight simulation and model aircraft design and construction, and compliments the traditional educational program."

He touched so many lives, it was an honor to have him for a friend.
 
This is a tragic loss. My prayers are with him and his family and friends.

May his soul rest in peace and may his spirit fly free in the skies.

The service was fitting such a great man. His son works with the United 777 simulator in Denver and came out to speak. He is very eloquent and told old stories about his father and his love for flying. Over 100 showed up and filled one of the walls with posters and letters. I want to comment that of the sites I posted this to, SOH is the only one that gave a response. You are the cream of the crop in the simming hobby :applause:.
