Despite being sick this week and still having to go to work, were down to painting and setting the LODs and rigging her DP file :bananapowerslide:

Eric I realize this is still g-string stuff but can you get into poly properties and alter the smoothing groups?

regards Collin:ernae:

Aye Lord Collin ya can, usually I start a piece as a mesh form it up then hit the mesh smooth modifier which reduces the poly count by approximately half then convert the part into a poly. I don't remember how it works in fsds might have to look into it.

Where she sits on polys now is just over 6100 bit heavy for a small ship but some of the detail I think was worth it and once the lods are done she should do rather well on frames.

Ok...do you see the solid rail going around the forward guns?

Call up the part.
Go into poly mode (or g-string equivalent).
Highlight all the side poly's.
Change their poly smoothing number from (presumably) 1 to 2.

If you were using fsds this would eliminate the shadow at the base of the part. You can also use it to show up hull plating, and those horrid polys that turn black no matter how you view them.

You got it, forgot to mention one step, the smooth button for those parts that tend to distort, like the above mentioned :ernae:
