RA-5C FCLP story

I was going through some saved paperwork, and found a story written by a former "Viggie" driver. I scanned the pages and converted it all to a pdf document. I apologize in advance for the small type; not my doing! But just make the font appear larger.

It is a good story. Enjoy. NC

The RA-5C was truly the most graceful airplane I ever saw when flying along with it, but a real problem for carrier landings. Only the best were sent from getting their wings to a Viggie RAG / Squadron.

My A-6 B/N and room mate in VA-75 was Bill "Fox" Fallon, later CENTCOM and VCNO. He originally was a Vig back seater but went on to transition to A-6s, as I did from A-4s to A-6s.

I had very little experience being around Viggies, except pulling their ejection seats a few times at Pax River. I did go on a couple FCLS certification dets, and do recall how the flight deck personnel would scatter when a Viggie was on final to trap. NC

In '69 RVAH-1 with 3 Vigges aboard Saratoga Med Cruise. Being up on the flight deck for the launch, we were behind Tilly with the JBD's about 15 feet ahead. Phantoms were hot but nowhere near as hot as a Viggie lightin' them burners! :icon37:
