• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

    If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

    Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

Reading BGL-files ??

:help:Hi, is there anyone who knows a programm to read BGL-files? The several StarOffice-Progms. doesn't help. BGL's can be opened by NotePad, but they are still unreadable! I only want to know any positions of added objects(coordinates) in missions, for sometimes it's very diff. to find them!

BGL scenery files are binary files created by BGLCOMP (BGL Compiler) and are not directly readable in an editor. As noted by others, you would need to use a BGL decompiler to try to convert them back into a readable form, but they are still written in a coding language (XML) used to place scenery objects.

Saying that, objects added in missions are not usually contained in BGL scenery files unless they are always visible whether you are flying a mission or not. Mission specific objects (whether buildings, aircraft, ground vehicles, ships, etc..), and if moving the routes they take, are coded into files used specifically to define the missions. While these can be in XML coded format, which would allow them to be read in a text editor, they are also usually compiled into another binary format called SPB (Sim-Prop Binary). I do not know of any decompilers for that format at this time, but someone else might.
