• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

    If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

    Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

Sad day for aviation...Tempelhof closed yesterday!

with the final take off of the Ju52 just before 12 pm yesterday airport Tempelhof in Berlin was closed for good! What a political nonsense and what a los this is!!!:banghead:

Talk about famous airports... none much more than this one. It played a very important role in world affairs. Sad to see it's loss. :isadizzy:
 
I can remember as a kid swimming in the huge indoor pool at Tempelhof when my family lived in Berlin from '70 to '75. My Dad was assigned to Berlin Brigade, and I remember going to some airshows there as well. I also remember swimming in a smaller pool right beside one of the taxiways. It had a privacy fence around it, but we could see the tails of the planes as they went by, and I especially enjoyed the music of the radials of the (K)C-97's as they passed. I was always in awe of the Berlin Airlft Memorial, and the way the Berliners preserved the memory of that trying time. Sad that they have closed it....
