• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

Server move issue log

Hi Dave,

Somehow I managed to ' double posts
In the forum yesterday, without it triggering a duplicate message response

Cheers

Pete

Somehow double posting was turned off. I just turned it back on.

It is on a timer and the minimum I can set it to is 1 minute.

Now to test a second post within a minute and see if it blocks that post.

Now to go back to picture posting

This picture is posted using the post image icon

The original size is 2196 x 1552

The image size allowed on the forums is not 1920 x 1200 with a 6mb limit

This is the second time I am posting this attachment so I can see how it gets manipulated. I deleted the other one.

SundaySwarm-2.1.jpg

This resizes the image and posts it in the forums as an attachment number. It only shows the thumbnail until you click it. If you had multiple images attached this way it would scroll them on click.

same image but attached using the attachment manager.

This image gets scaled down to 1698 x 1200

It does not expand when you click it. It displays full size.

Now for the last test

Same image posted using both methods but I changed the server settings for YUI interface back to "none"

First posted by the icon

Note had to reload browser to make sure the changes took.

moving to the next post to make sure it is clean

And neither one changed so the only thing I thought could be it is not the reason for the change.

More to be posted later. Out of time for now.

Before the server move and your own upgrades, I used to have a problem when trying to download files. About 15% of the time, I would start the download and then quickly receive a message saying that the file could not be downloaded or that the download was interrupted. Clicking on the resume or restart button usually then began the download properly.

Since the move and updates, this problem happens far more frequently - around 40% of the time.

And now that it is becoming more persistent, it is annoying that the 60 second delay before another download can be started is more intrusive - the delay does not start until the download really does start.

Please can you do something about this.

FWIW, I am using Win7SP1 and IE11.

Now can't get to Main Page

Hi Dangerous Dave 26, I now can't get to Main Page for Downloads & Comments -----Sends me straight to Forums Instantly started Yesterday Australian Eastern Standard Time about 15.00 Hours. Is it me or the site itself ?

Hi dangerousdave26,

I went to post a reply to a thread. After typing my response I wanted to preview it.
That worked OK. But i
t would not let me post from the preview window. It opened another response window and the only way I could post was to copy my entire message from the preview window into the new response window.

So what you will find is that some special characters will cause the post to function but you can't reply to that post.

So if you have those special characters in the reply and then do a preview it should show up in the preview window but will now not post.

Short answer look at your post. If it has special characters those might be to blame.

The library software has not changed. I can't think of anything else that would have affected you in this manner.

We need to look at the path from you to the server.

On your PC open a command window and type

Code:
ping -t sim-outhouse.com

Let it run for a couple of minutes. You should get a reply each time.

Use Control-C to stop the ping command

If you see any "Request timed out" there is a problem with internet/network.

What is your network connection to your PC? If you are wireless can you go wired to test if that is the problem.

There should not be a problem with your OS or Browser but if the ping responses are good we need to test at least the browser. Try Firefox or Chrome. I prefer Firefox.

Dave,
thank you for your reply. I have tried your ping command several times after using both IE11 and Firefox as my browser (still under Win7SP1). This is a typical response when I have issued the stop command -
Ping statistics for 72.233.76.234:
Packets: Sent = 86, Received = 75, Lost = 11 (12% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 162ms, Maximum = 308ms, Average = 173ms

I also tried the test using both of my internet providers, with similar results each time. All of the tests resulted in some losses.

That's the problem

Are you on WIFI?

If so how many neighbors are near you. There might be too much network congestion around you.

You should do the same test but wired internet.
