Hey All,

Now that she's 19 I guess it's OK for me to admit that this girl became a hero of mine when she was around 12 to 14 (I was over 50). I thought if I could ever play my mandolin half as good as she is at that age in this performance my musical aspirations will be fulfilled.

Nice of the school to let her outta the 6th grade to help out Allison Krauss and Union Station on Cluck Old Hen.

Course she just got better and began to sing. Note she is only about 15 or 16 in this video - her voice has a long way to go.

Now a young woman her voice is filling out and even though she is still in "copy Allison Krauss" mode she is going to become an absolute superstar when she finds her own voice and style - as if she wasn't already with her talent on the mandolin. This is the lead song off her latest CD released two weeks ago.

Nice of the Berkley School of Music where she is the only musician to ever win a Presidential Scholarship in Bluegrass to work with the development of her career.

Wonderful watching these kids grow up. Just wish I had half the talent she has in her little finger.

i dont care if shes "copying" alisons style or not...thats another one of those "pure voices" that make me stand up and wave...not many do that to me as im not much of a music person...but this girl has that "pure" sound to me as does alison...deanna carter was rougher but also pure as is ..oh shoot the two gals with alison on "oh brother where art thou"

I shall say that bluegrass has come a Long way since I was a kid..
I grew up Knowing Bill Monroe, Country Gentlemen, and many others.. my Mom and dad were booking agents and fans in the late 50's and 60's..
Many of the old world bluegrass players were in my Mom and Dad's home many times..
Great down to earth folks..

I don't care for this music, grew up hating the music but loving the friendly kind folk who played it..

Learned to, play the play a guitar (badly)at the feet of many of these men.. Lester Flat once told me he throught I could become a good picker if I tried..
And Bill Monroe gave in a nice "Mouth Harp"( harmonica) and great set of Picks, still have them..

Haven't picked up a guitar in 25 years, maybe some day Our lord willing.. I may yet get to play one of these in heaven..God Willing..

I do hope and pray the new generations of bluegrass players have the great Kind and Caring
personalities I was blessed to know as a boy..

Hey All,

Daveroo the two other singers you refer to are Emmy Lou Harris - who needs no introduction so I'll focus on the other here - Gillian Welch. Gillian is probably the most soulful singer I have ever heard in my life. So many of her songs simply strike home with me and send chills up and down my spine when I hear em. I can't even begin to pick favorites so I'll do something fast something slow and a chiller.

Something fast

Something slower

A chiller - An unflinching visit to a '50's era mental institution (set to Gillian Welch's I'm not afraid to die).

Househobbit I can provide you with a youtube link that documents that Sierra Hull follows in this tradition (kind and caring) just as truly as Bill Monroe. It simply goes with the territory. Somebody told me once: "Country Rocks, Bluegrass Rules, Rock an Roll Drools - Some drool from time to time isn't a bad thing but you don't wanna drown in it - you'll lose your life and your soul". Guess that's about the way of it. Oh an I have 7 harmonica's - it's my other instrument.
