PRACTICE # 2 - Rules
Practice #2 - The Polar Express
START TIME IS NOW!!!
Standard RTW (2008) rules apply re: timing, Duenna, posts, aircraft
-piston powered fixed wing aircraft, turboprop powered, fixed wing aircraft with two engines or less, helicopters
For this exercise 2008 "Cabin Class" and the PC-21 aircraft may be substituted for regular RTW aircraft' on an "as appropriate" basis.
Depart RJSK (Akita, Japan)
To SB2P (Ceara Minim, Brazil)
THEN on to Antarctica to finish at Base RTW2008
Max Leg Length = 700 nm
Time limits: 2 hours/leg except as noted below.
-------------------------------------------
SPECIAL AIRCRAFT REQUIREMENTS:
Classic & Default Aircraft: (which must be flown in the pure default form)
NOTE: Users may not modify panels in the Classic Aircraft:
Jenny, Vimy, Cub, Tri-motor, DH Comet, Vega. If the aircraft did not have autopilot or GPS when installed originally they may not be added.
Each selected aircraft must be flown at least once for the minimum mileage listed:
* 70 nm - Curtiss Jenny, Vickers Vimy, Piper J-3 Cub - pick two (2) of these aircraft based on pilot preferences
* 100 nm - Lockheed Vega, DeHavilland Comet - FSX Maule M7 (Default) - pick two (2) of these aircraft based on pilot preferences
* 150 nm - Douglas DC-3, Extra 300, C182 &RG (default or Carenado), Ford Trimotor, FSX Default Grumman Goose, - pick three (3) of these aircraft based on pilot preferences
Classic flights MUST be flown only in continental US & Canada OR continental Europe (includes Scandinavia)
In addition to the above:
the departure from RJSK must be made in any Classic/Default a/c (100 nm minimum) - no bonus added
---------------------------------------
SPECIAL ROUTES:
**Air Bridges
Due to the reduction in the maximum allowable leg distance to 700nm, a flight around the world is no longer possible without a special consideration. These exception airport pairs are optional and may be used should a team choose that route. These airport pairs must be flown as listed - in either direction. No landings at alternate airports are allowed. Normal race eligible aircraft must be used - any special corridor aircraft may not be used on these airport pairs. There is a time limit for each pair; exceeding that time limit will result in the same 3 x 1 time penalty as a normal race leg.
UHSS - UHPP = 711.8 nm - 3 hrs
UHMM - UHMP = 772.4 nm - 3 hrs
GVMA - SBFN = 1245.2NM - 5 hrs
**The Antarctica Finale:
Aircraft must be be able to carry at least 2 seats (Pilot +1).
Aircraft may be changed from leg to leg.
Depart from the Falklands islands (Islas Mavinas)
Proceed to THREE of the following island stations:
Petrel (FS9: NZ0A; FSX: SA47),
Palmer Station (FS9:NZ0B; FSX NZ12),
Base Marimbo (SAWB)
Teniente R Marsh Martin (SCRM)
and then complete the route by proceeding to Base RTW2008 (ICAO 2008)
Leg limits are 3 hours in this portion of the exercise.
Special scenery/AFCAD files have been constructed for Base RTW2008 and the real-life bases.File attached with both FS9 and FSX files included.
-----------------------------------------------------
CORRIDORS
Corridors allow the use of alternate paths across the oceans, and avoid having only one "best and fastest" workable route around the world. Team may use any of the corridors listed below. Full stop landings and an exchange of the baton must be made at each airport in the corridor. The stops must be made in the order listed. Additionally, up to two optional stops may be made in a corridor - provided the airport for that stop is within 300nm of a listed corridor airport. Team may use a maximum of ONE (1) corridor during the race.
**Corridor Options
(1) Polar One - UHHH - UEEE - UEST - CYLT Lengths: 834.1 - 576.6 - 1541.1= 2951.8 **NOTE: Due to the unique nature of this route, the time limit for the leg UEST-CYLT is extended to 4.5 hours
(2) Aleut One - RJCK - UHPP - PADK - PAHP Lengths: 831.2 - 907.8 - 672.5= 2223.9
(3) Bermuda One - KPQI - TXKF - TIST - SVPR Lengths: 873.4 - 841.8 - 616.3= 2411.5
(4) Med One - LIMJ - GATB - GVFM Lengths: 877.4 - 890.1 - 1187.6= 2955.1
(5) Atlantic One - EGHC - LXGB - GQNC Lengths: 837.2 - 1084.9 - 423.2= 2345.3
**Corridor Aircraft:
Subsonic jet, hybrid (B-36/ P-2V type) and turboprop aircraft of more than two engines are available to be used in corridor flights in ONE corridor. (Supersonic capable aircraft flown at subsonic speeds are NOT allowed.) Subsonic jets are limited to use on Corridor legs over 800nm. All other flights in corridors must be flown in standard race-eligible aircraft. Tu-95/Tu-114 a/c are only allowed on corridor legs arriving or departing Russian airfields.
--------------------------------------------
MANDATORY AIRPORTS:
A full-stop landing and baton pass must be made at:
BOTH PABR (Wiley Post-Will Rogers Mem.) AND CYCB (Cambridge Bay)
OR
CYLT
OR
ENSS (note: after ENSS one landing/take-off must be made in each of Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany
Other Airports:
For this exercise, you may wish to download and add the following airports/sceneries to give more options in the Arctic. Use is not required and no review of the sceneries is available.Testing is recommended prior to use.

BONUS TIME ALLOWANCES
Landing/departing CYLT receives a bonus of 60 minutes if the entire corridor is flown without a crash.
1) Succesful completion of all seven (7) required Classic/Default flights (not including the first leg from RJSK) will receive a 1 hour bonus.
Any crash of any type in the Classic/Default category invalidates this bonus, but does not remove the requirement to complete all the Classic/Default flights.
2) Additional 45 min bonus for landing at PABR in a Lockheed Vega - must meet min 100 nm rule
3) Additional 45 min bonus for landing at SB2P in a Classic - must meet min 70/100/150 nm rule for type.
Completing all 3 of these requirements crash-free increases the bonus to 4 hours.
A 30 minute Bonus will be given for landing at any of the published Norwegian Highway Strips: Z11D, Z11E, Z11F, Z11G (to a maximum of 60 minutes)
**Team Flight Bonus:
ANY three legs may be flown as a group to qualify for the Team Flight Bonus.
--10 minutes per aircraft (minimum of 3, maximum of 5 to count per leg) that accompanies the Baton and lands within 10 minutes of the Baton arrival.
--Maximum of 5 bonuses per leg, maximum Total Bonus 120 minutes.
--Bonus aircraft must be of the same general type as the Baton a/c (eg. Classic/Default, regular RTW a/c, Corridor specials- jet & jet, turboprop & turboprop, etc)
Aircraft Diversity Bonus:
To encourage the use of a variety of types a Diversity Bonus will be caculated and added at the end as follows:
if 72% of the total legs flown are done with different types of aircraft (P-51 B, C, D & H are all the "same" type, Beech KA200/300 are same type, etc.) a bonus will be calculated by multiplying the number of discrete types by five (5) minutes.
-- Example: 35 legs flown, 26 different types = 74% -- 26x5=130 minutes of bonus time.--
