Textures format

With the recent beautiful Thunderbolts by Captain Kurt with the little updates I just realized that maybe some of my textures issues on some planes (especially the stock/OH models, the VC or the plane) may come from the textures format. I was wondering if there is a way to know the format of a texture file (DXT1/3/5(?)) or a program that can convert a DXT1 to a DXT3? I know of DxtFixerX but I'm not sure if it's the right program in that case. It's really for the sake of checking if my issues come from that. Zero VC turned to black.jpg

Thanks for the help everyone, I will take a look at DTXBmp, textures is clearly out of my comfort zone but understanding things better is a thing I like so I'll try my best.

Just to complicate things, some modelers use indexed textures for panels. We use 24 bit bitmaps on our Westfront WW1 aircraft panels.

Don't be afraid to experiment with different formats. Have fun Ludo!
