Textures / Gmax: Modeling

A couple things come to mind as I'm building templates for my models. Specific to parts when the texture is applied over a long distance. Cables for instance.
As a rule, when the texture is applied over the UVW, do I need to make the texture full length for best appearance, or apply and mirror a shorter texture for length and hope for a good match.

I'm curious how others do it.

For a repeating texture, I usually copy a segment, flip it horizontally and add it to one side. That way, when you repeat it, shading and all will match. Like this> flip-flip-pilf-pilf

A picture is worth a thousand words but in this case four words are worth a picture. Another great piece of knowledge to add to my repertoire. Thanks Uncle Milty. :jump:

Thanks Paul. I use this technique vertically and horizontally to make a repeating swatch like with carpet or any large area.
The attached is an example of one square swatch repeated to make a pattern with 4 pieces, 2 top, 2 bottom.

Bottom 2 are flipped vertically. The right sides top and bottom flipped horizontally.

So, from the original, now this end result can be used to tile a larger pattern if needed and all sides will match in shading/lighting, and pattern.
