This thing is really huge!
The included brace is not really adequate to hold the unit in place horizontally so that meant the purchase of a vertical bracket kit.
First one wasn't correct so I ended up with a 'cablemod' kit which works well except for fitting closer to the MoBo than I'd like.
Lots of grunt in the 3090 but it is rather like using a sledge hammer to crack a Walnut.

I jumped on this one as soon as my usual supplier contacted me and I'm highly impressed with the performance in my photography programs, but I've yet to see a quantum leap in any FS, other than much improved stability.
No doubt that should alter with a bit of tinkering......:devilish:
 
The video card market is still super tight. I really needed to upgrade from my 2009 built Windows XP machine, but I could not get a 3xxx series card and I was not about to pay prices higher than 3xxx series MSRP for a card that was one or two generations older than the 3xxx series. I ended up buying a pre-built system, something I have not done in over two decades, but the system builders are first in line to get components. I bought an ABS computer, NewEgg's in-house brand, that came with an EVGA 3070 FTW3 card. I am still installing all of my FSX stuff, but a few test flights indicate smooth performance and high fps.

It is all very silly. Amazon UK have an RTX2080 Super Ventus XS OC (whatever that is) for a mere £1300 today. And it is not stated to be new !

My 10-year old system will just have to keep going for another year - at least !
 
Looks like I will be going back to my old XP computer. My 17 day old Newegg computer failed to turn on this morning. I spent two weeks installing FSX Steam Edition and all the accessory programs that allow me to customize FSX.

Motherboard RGB indicates power from the PSU, but resetting and trying to power up results in a split second of the fans, video card, and water pump coming alive, then they go dead. Resetting the computer, the PSU, and UPS does nothing, it is dead.
 
There seems to have been a rash of PSU failures in my part of the World recently.
My 6 month old Corsair AX1600i went belly up early this year for no reason that we could find. Replaced under warranty, our own Bendflyer had the same happen as well.
Strange happenings.

I am thinking either PSU or motherboard. I plan to rob the 1000 watt PSU out of my old machine and try it. The PSU in my new machine is an EVGA 750 watt unit, but I have read about lots of new PSU's made by high end companies failing.
 
Removed the EVGA 750 watt GR Series PSU, crammed in the older, but known to work, Antec PSU, which is only 900 watts and I was thinking it was 1000, but still gross overkill for this system. Put everything back together, no left over fasteners, plugging everything in and pressed the power button.


It.... is..... alive!

Noticed a light gray residue on the EVGA PSU at one of the VGA sockets that was in use. Maybe this 750 Watt PSU was not actually up to the task.
