The Last P-51 - U. S. Army's last P-51 Mustang, chase plane for the AH56 Cheyenne test progam, 1967-75.

This repaint represents P-51D-25-NA 44-72990 as it appeared in the late 1960's and early 1970's. According to internet sources 72990 was sold to the RCAF in 1951 as No. 9283 where it served until 1958. It was then sold to a civilian owner with registration N6322T. It passed through the hands of several private owners until it came back into the hands of the U.S. Army Material Command in 1967 who had it rebuilt by Cavalier Aircraft to F-51 Mustang II version with the serial number 0-72990...
