The lure of flight simulation.

I've been involved with flight simulation since 2003 or so. During the past three years I haven't been as active, but I still try to keep up with the latest addons and improvements.

It constantly amazes me how detailed simulation has become. The distinction between reality and simulation is becoming more difficult all the time! I was watching that latest RAZBAM T-2 Buckeye video from Mirage. Small details, like the dirt on the tires as the aircraft taxies along the flight line. It's almost magical how real it all is!

I vividly remember working on great aircraft (such as the Corsair II, Crusader, Skyhawks, Vigilantes, Phantoms, etc....). Flight simulation allows me to "relive" those days. Even better, I am able to fly those jets. The simulation is so realistic that I can almost smell the JP-5, feel the heat from the tailpipe exhaust, and feel the rumble from the engines at high power.

It's fun to fantasize, isn't it?

Thank you to ALL the developers (freeware AND payware!) who create these wonderful addons. Thank you to everyone in the flight simulation community who contribute to this wonderful, and incredibly FUN hobby!

Agreed!...The Magic of Desk Top Flight Simulation. In any way shape or form,.Hoping it keeps Flying for a long time time to come!...

Quite right, Chief. Lots of remarkably talented people contribute to our enjoyment and deserve sincere thanks and respect. Flight simulation, as a hobby, has simply improved the quality of my life. What more could you want from a hobby ?

Agreed. The fellow interviewed in this vid is from PMDG and gives some tantalising hints as to the future of simming.

Very well said NC . My wife has finally figured out by watching some of my scenery and aircraft , that it took a lot of artistic , engineering minded (both PC and others) to make this for us . As you stated NC , thanks to all who contribute to our hobby .

Memories are strange phenomena at times. I choose to think back on my sea duty experiences, and selectively recall the "good times". Sure there were hard times, working on those aircraft. I definitely remember the seemingly endless months at sea, busting my a..., 12 on 12 off, preparing aircraft for the next launch, and the never-ending Corrosion Audits.

But that's the beauty of being selective. I choose to recall the friendship amongst shipmates that does not wane, and the satisfaction of having helped maintain those aircraft in defense of this Nation.

So when I "climb" into that Corsair II, or Buckeye, it's fun to imagine what it was like to actually fly them! To line up on the cats, get the launch salute from the Cat officer, and shoot off the "pointy end". What a thrill that must have been! We maintainers only dreamed of such things. But, thanks to simulation, we can make the dream seem to become reality:)

I agree with you, NC. It is so much fun to do what we dreamt of doing while working around the real ones back in the day. Thanks to all who continue to make it possible. :salute::applause:

Yep, memories (good and bad) to be sure and thanks to all the talented painters and builders who grace our hobby.

Speaking of memories, here's a 2/17 Air Cavalry Huey, one of the birds I flew on in VN.
