The Start Of Something From Nothing

Hi all,
I too have never done this before...blogging that is.
The way I look at it, I love this site and want to start using more of the new features. So starting a blog seemed like the easiest thing to do. So I'll get on with it.

Just spent three great days down at my favorite place in the world Oshkosh, WI for EAA's big show. I was going to go four days but the weather got a little iffy on the last two days I was thinking about going. So I decided that I had seen enough and that I would only be going for the airshow part.
This year was my 40th in a row going to Oshkosh. Mom & Dad started going when it was still in Rockford, Ill. My first year was 1970. I can't tell you how many times I've flown the airshow on the flight sim. Aerobatics, the Warbird show, etc. Unless $$$$ issues change in my future, it might be my only way of ever doing such things. Hopefully I'll be able to start flying lessons by the time I'm 50. At least that's the plan for now. That gives me 6 years to start saving (like that's going to happen).
Well, this is my last day of vacation after being off of work for the last 9 days. It's always bitter sweet, that last day. Just spending a relaxing morning with relatives who stayed with us last night. We're all headed off to brunch in a couple of hours and then have to take them to the airport.
Well, there it is, a little bit of something from nothing. My first blog entry.
See ya!

Interesting read Tom! Not bad at all for your 1st blog! Congrats on using the new SOH features. I encourage you to continue.
I love the profile picture :)

Sounds like you had a good time at the airshow. I have to make it to one of those at least once in my life.
Enjoy your last day of vacation. Mine starts next week ;)

The Picture was actually from a little mini vacation a few weeks earlier.
It was actually July 3rd. Hence "my vacation shirt".
My wife and I had gone to see our daughter and her husband by Milwaukee.
It was BBQ time!

My wife and her sister have been busy the last few hours baking pies. Two different apple pies and a pumpkin pie. Rumor has it that there my be a cheesecake in the works before it's all over.
Then the cookies will begin.

Why all the baking you my ask?
My wife Linda is an award winning baker!
At least at our county fair.
Two years ago, she took home the Blue Ribbon for her Apple Pie. It was her first time ever entering it anywhere! We always told her it was an award winner! :)
So last year, she got the date mixed up as to when she had to deliver them to the fair. She realized her error the day she had to have them in. Well, a frantic terror filled trip to the store and some antics that looked like the Tasmanian Devil in our kitchen yielded an apple pie and her first try at entering the most competitive catagory... the chocolate chip cookies!
Well, her quick throw together (no second chances) pie took 3rd place. (We believe it needed to cook a little longer, apples a bit too crunchy)
But the big surprise was her cookies took third place out of 17 entries! Not bad for her first attempt.

Well, our county fair is only a few weeks away now and with her sister visiting, they thought today is the day to try out all the recipes.

I have humbly accepted the responsibility of being the "official" taste tester.
Hope I make it to work tomorrow!

Oh boy, I was just told now there's banana bread in the works too!

Just here to report that the pies (only had room for the two different apple) were outstanding!
Tried the Banana Bread this morning at it gets the thumbs up too. Tonight, we try the Pumpkin.

Getting on the scale this morning revealed that I put on a few over my vacation. I know, surprise, surprise. So it felt good to get out at 6am this morning for our mix of power walking and light jogging. God I love the mornings. Even when I have to go to work.
