• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

SOH-CM-2025
This was sent to me by and old USAF buddy who got it from an ILL ANG pilot. I don't know if it really happened. But...

In addition to communicating with the local Air Traffic Control facility,
all aircraft in the Persian Gulf AOR are required to give the Iranian
Air Defense Radar (military) a ten minute 'heads up' if they will be
transiting Iranian airspace.

This is a common procedure for commercial aircraft and involves giving
them your call sign, transponder code, type aircraft, and points of
origin and destination.

I just flew with a guy who overheard this conversation on the VHF
Guard (emergency) frequency 121.5 MHz while flying from Europe to
Dubai. It's too good not to pass along.

The conversation went something like this...

"Iranian Air Defense Radar: 'Unknown aircraft you are in Iranian
airspace. Identify yourself.'

Aircraft: 'This is a United States aircraft. I am in Iraqi airspace.'

Air Defense Radar: 'You are in Iranian airspace. If you do not
depart our airspace we will launch interceptor aircraft!'

Aircraft: 'This is a United States Marine Corps FA-18 fighter.
Send 'em up, I'll wait!'

Air Defense Radar: (no response ... total silence)

Yea. That's a classic. There's one version where the F-18 pilot was female and the controller was not silent. Iranian controllers don't take kindly to airspace violations.
