Unable to do a Boolean Cut procedure

OleBoy

Charter Member 2015
I'm ready to remove areas in the fuselage.

I've read, and re-read Miltons Cessna 162 Tutorial (Step 10 http://www.flightsimonline.com/C162/fusex6/) several times.
Following the guide lines to the letter does not produce satisfactory results?

To confirm it was/is not a cutting template issue I re-created them several times.
I'm left scratching my head as/to what I am doing wrong.

Note; My cylinder is/was not 24 sided. Although I don't think that's why the procedure does not work?

As I remember the tut doesn't make sure the boolean operators are closed, especially the vertical stabiliser. If your objects have open ends, booleans often don't work. A short tut on this is over at CombatAce

Great tut!

Another to add to my growing collection of "must have" Gmax Modeling Base.

Thanks HS :icon29:

By the way, the object I was wanting to perform the boolean procedure on, is/was the wheel pant. Completely closed.
Will a boolean op only work on halves? Reading your method states otherwise. (scratches head)
I'll read up a few times before I start hacking on my mesh. :icon_lol:

By the way again, I want to thank you for (and everyone who has been) helping me along my way.
I'm real happy with the way my model is taking shape and coming along. :icon29:

Note:
It appears that there are two images missing from your tut (7 & 8)
Can you replace them?

First, clone the cockpit interior shell and hide the original. I’ve named the clone shell01. Select all polys in Left View and make two slices, one each side of the panel:-

Since we're cloning the interior, with inward-facing polys, convert to Editable Mesh and Flip all the shell01 polys to make it easier to see what we're doing. Then delete all the polys except those immediately around the panel:-

This gives a much simpler mesh for gmax to deal with, but still accurate to the VC. Now we have to close the mesh.

Dang it. Saving the webpage for offline viewing does not work as it leaves the top half of the page black.

Department of the Bleedin' Obvious, but make sure the two objects overlap. I've tried a boolean repeatedly without success and then found the two objects to be separated by a small gap.

I no longer have the original images - nor has ImageShack - but here are two replacements

Hope this helps.

A screenshot of the two objects ready for the boolean would help for advice. Be sure to show Edged Faces.
