Why Drunks go unscathed

They are drunk. They tend to be loose and fail to naturally braace on impact. It is the tensing of muscles in anticipation of an accident that pulls muscles and breaks bones. Makes complete sense once you know!

This is very true about drunks. Some years ago when I worked up in Alaska, many years before I quit drinking, a buddy and I went out drinking all night. We wanted to go to one last bar. I knew I couldn't drive so I let him. Long story short, he hit a telephone pole with my truck. I didn't have a seat belt on so I went right into the windshield. Other than a few scratches and a nice imprint of my face in the glass, I was unhurt. I am quite sure that had I been sober and saw it coming, I would have tensed up and it probably would have broke my neck.

Yay, brother, hang loose - that's the trick!
I had a guy on my crew who did not mind a brew or two. One Friday, he knocked off work at 3.30pm as usual, and woke up on Sunday in his own bed, with a broken thigh-bone.
Still has no idea when or where he did it.
Cheers
