Record Temps here in Wisconsin this week. Yesterday it was 5 w/o windchill, -15 with, today it's -3 w/o wind chill and -26 with. But tommorrow's gonna be a doozy, It's supposed to be - 12 for the HIGH w/o the windchill, but factor the 30 MPH winds and we are gonna get hammered by -35 to -40 degree temps:isadizzy:. Well, at least I get out of school!:woot:I'm glad too, Becuase I gotta walk to and from school, the car doesnt' like the cold either I guess.

Windchill doesn't affect inanimate objects like cars... so if it won't start at -3 you have a problem. Probably a bad battery, you shouldn't need a block heater at that temp. Maybe you have the wrong oil in the car?

Green Bay WI at the fox river CG Buey is recording current windchill -51F. Ya Delavan is in for a whopper friday.

toughen up guys! when it gets to be -50 without the windchill THEN it's cold.:173go1:

But I do sympathize. Been there, shivered thru it!

Yep, same here. It's no picnic but you just have to grumble and bare it. ;)

IDSD, just don't stick out your tongue and touch anything metal. Or you'll be stuck there for awhile.

But have no fear...the warm air will come blasting through again for a couple days. :d

We hit -31°F air temp this morning in the middle of ND. We're warming up now that the sun went down...it's only -17 now. We're supposed to have +30-ish temps this weekend.
Wasn't too windy today so I did wander out onto the ice for a while this afternoon to do some fishing. It must've still been too cold for the fish though.

Wind chill temps don't really affect cars...but cold will. If it isn't in good tune, pretty much any car can get tempermental below zero. I've got two Fords that are absolutely grumpy when it gets down below 10°F above. They will still start down to -25...they just complain about it!

Used to have a 66 Ford Custom cab F-100 pickup with a 352 big block V-8 that wouldn't start below 42F. It'd start fine at 42, at 41 or lower, you could crank the starter over all you wanted to and it just wouldn't fire off. Replaced everything I could think of on it and never did get it to start below 42. Eventually traded it even up for a plain jane 65 Chevy pickup with a straight 6 than you just couldn't keep from being ready to go no matter what the temp.

No, I checked and I think it may be the battery, however, it is an old Chevy S10 pickup, and has trouble starting whn it gets below freezing, so maybe it's just a crappy vehicle to start with. Abd yes, it may not be -50, but it sure is a record for pretty much ALL of WI. MoparMike, I can't wait for it to get into the 20's and lower 30's in the weekend, It's gonna feel like a heatwave. I don't have to put up with this for much longer though, next Fall we should be living just outside of San Antonio, maybe Canton Lake or the Hill Country.

-24F right now here in Central VT as of 23:00. Forecast low is -17. High tomorrow in the single digits. Same for the next three days.

A trip to Oz would be welcome about now.

Its cold here in East Central Wisconsin too. Not exactly a record, but cold. -20F tonite. I dont mind the cold but the semi trucks I work with do not like cold of any kind.

Here in "Sunnnnnnnyyyyyyy Mansfield" Ohio (Sunnnnnyyyy Mansfield being the city's official slogan) it is 13 below zero with a wind chill of 32 below zero. Got to be careful taking the dogs out....their little feet will get frost burnt very quickly on all that super cold snow.

I know that all too well Robert. I can't count the times the fuel in my truck would gel up and I'd be stuck along side the road when the temps got to the below 0 mark. Half the time they would add enough Kerosene to the fuel at our terminal. If you got fuel out on the raod you were better off.... most times. -20 and below was and is a bad situation for diesel fuel to gel up.

It got down to 11*F here last night. Windchill this morning is right around 0. I feel bad for all the homeless out on the city streets. Ihope the shelters had and have enough room for them.

It was 6 and slowly dropping here when I went to bed last night. I didn't get up to see how cold it got. Figured it was a good morning to stay under the covers and sleep. It's about 16 out there right now.

Last night it was -9 actual temp outside when I got off work. Got all comfortable, patted the cat on the head, fixed a snack, and kicked up my feet in the ole LAZBOY.

Then it hit me that it was the night we had to put the trash out for pickup beside the road and my son hadn't done it before he went to work. So in my most macho wisdom, I thought, "Hey, I'll only be out there a couple of minutes, so a tee-shirt and sweatpants will surely hold back the cold.

Trotted outside.

First trip with the trash bucket wasn't bad. A bit air-ish.

Walked back to the garage, and got the recycle bucket. The driveway continued to grow in length as I tried to get to the edge of the road !

Second walk back and I was almost in tears as the air felt like needles going into the exposed skin of my brawny man-arms! Total time out: 2.5 minutes ! I was humbled by Mother Nature. Crawled back into the house and didn't come outta my room for 2 hours and 45 minutes !:icon_eek::icon_eek::icon_eek:

About your original question about losing your fingers. It matters if you sleep with your hands under the covers or keep them on top.
