Windows 7 Fix

Barnstorm

"Molon Labe"
Just an FYI....

After building my new system with Win7-64, neither CFS3 or OFF would run properly. A fellow teacher at the CC where I work turned me on ot this DirectX update for Windows 7 and Vista. It is essentially a backwards compatability fix for DirectX10 and 11. Some of the OS's don't have all the 'old' files to run DirX 9 apps properly. If you have not installed this update yet, you should concider it. Even if you have and don't know it, running it again won't hurt anything.

Thanks for the heads up

This is definitely a good thing to install, given all the backwards compatibility issues between OS's and programs.

Case in Point : connecting to Multiplayer in CFS3 and it's expansions, requires setting the .exe's to run as XP (SP2)

I'm not sure if this is a performance improver, or a fix, but it is definitely a "functionality improver" overall in the grand scheme of things, depending on what older programs you might be wanting to run on a Windows 7 setup.

I didn't even make a restore point before installing it. What I saw it install was the many updates to DirectX over the years and it seems to me I'd rather have them in and at the ready should I come across an old application that requires some of these items than not have them in place and possibly face system crashes or incompatibilty.

I am a CFS modder of sorts and tinkering with the older utilities comes up alot. So thanks for some good intel!
