X-Plane?

Are there any Mac users besides me here? Has anyone tried X-Plane? How does it compare to FS2004? I can run either simulator on my machine, but I'm not sure if X-Plane is worth trying. They are about to raise the price from $39 to $59, so I'm looking at it seriously.

I've never tried it, but there´s a very positive article about the new X-Plane 9 in the current PC Pilot magazine. 8 should be down in price now, and I've seen 7 for only €9.95.

Hey Gwynedd,

Here is a quick link to a thread on this started yesterday. http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?t=3697

I have it and I am looking at getting an Apple as well. X-Plane was originally Apple based.

X-Plane isnt as polished and refined as FS9 and FSX is, but its a huge and very nice platform none the less. You can change the keyboard controls to be the same as FS so that you can start flying in it fairly quickly, but some controls are very different from FS. (You'll read my input on it in that other thread).

There is a huge following of X-Plane people at their website in their own forums too that have lots of tips and all for flying in X-Plane.

How do you like your new Mac? I just recently picked up the new iPod Touch and cant beleive how cool the OS is in it. I will be getting an Apple for sure now.

Hi, Bill. I will have a look at those links as soon as I get home tonight. I love Macs and have ever since I entered my PhD program that used Macs after struggling with a DOS based AI software for my Masters research and then having to write the thesis and format it in DOS! I thought I had died and gone to heaven when I got on a Mac. To paraphrase the famous line in Jerry Maguire, it had me from click.
I am on my 5th Macintosh now, and I run a MacPro quad core Intel based machine at work and a dual core MacBook Pro at home. Being able to run both OSX and Windows is a big sell. I use the Mac OS for all my work and Windows for play. I know they aren't cheap, but they are worth it to me. Do try to get a Japanese DVD drive rather than a Chinese one, though. That is the only thing that ever failed on any Mac I ever had.
