Two years does not seem much but China didn't persecute product piracy until recently. Wonder if the government confiscated the profits? Otherwise the guy will get out to a very comfortable retirement...

Two things you need to remember here.This is China.
1/ In China 6 years means 6 years.Does not matter what the European press says.They do not run an 'If your a good boy we will let you out early' system.Any infringement of the rules will also mean a further extended stay for them.This is any infringement.
2/ These are Chinese prisons.Not the holiday camps that he West runs.So it will be no picnic in there.

Six years in a Chinese 'Prison' might be survivable, maybe.

The piracy problem is unsolvable as long as people get hold of a copy that can be duplicated or hacked. And that is exactly why we will not be given that copy anymore in the future--see the other thread recently here on Newshawks.
 
Fear is an excellent motivating factor when common decency, respect for other's hard work, and conscience just don't work for these people. I hope the penalties get stiffer in the world against pirates and hackers.

I've heard that Chinese prisons can be like Roach Motels, they check in, but they don't check out. That being said, unless piracy is prosecuted and the penalties are harsh, software pirates will not be deterred.

i resisted posting in this thread originally because on the one hand, i agree that something like models and software shouldn't be stolen. on the other hand, i have heard some folks on this board lump all types of file sharing together, condeming it all as total thievery. no matter how much i feel that the music industry and hollywood has been ripping everyone off for decades, i don't really have the eloquence to express what i know and feel properly.
however, i found someone who does/has. many of the articles on this person's blog are terrible. this particular one is golden:

is it a question of a program on DVD or...?

if software will be server based in the future, we will break into the servers and steal the code.

well, not me, but those that do...

Software has not been pirated enough to
Stop new productions coming out all the time.
Stop computerising things to take over the buiness world
To stop it being a nice way to make a living
That means companies and CEOs are still making a LOT of money.
With their serverbased software, all they seem to do is not sell their stuff any more but lease it out.
Someone will still steal it... one way or an other.

Why?
Thieves have existed since the beginning of time, and nothing will stop that.

Hopefully.

Because i want these big companies to be a LOT weaker in the future.
And because i like to control the things i use.
If it means i that from...2020 on i will have to buy ripped software in order to use them offline, i will.
 
I feel I must say something.
Last year I bought what I thought was a real paint shop pro X1 on ebay, what I got was a dvd pirated copy.

I contacted Coral and they wanted 25 dollars from me but gave me a legal copy.

I contacted ebay and reported this and was blasted by ebay and got a black mark on my record, 3 black marks gets you booted.

this isn't right.
Ebay is to blame almost all software on ebay is pirated and they allow this to go on.

no one is doing anything about piracy, not even the FBI. (thats another story)
 
EBay is a pirates heaven Ickie. Ya gotta be very very careful on there. It's a shame that EBay won't police it more and make the site safer for all.

wow! that really surprises me! i don't understand how they can punish you for being duped by someone using their service! i think i would tell them if they didn't remove the mark i woas going to notify the bbb or someone, maybe that would get their attention.
