Chickasaw Update

The G-2, while a nice Helicopter, has taken a backseat to the AlphaSim S-55 for the time being and I've been redoing the textures and tweaking the VC panel. A really fun Helicopter to roam the "Nam" countryside in.

Looks nice falcon, It's nice to have something to take you somewhere back to your long ago :engel016:

I have a good friend, who hangs out over on Flightsim.com, that flew those, and '46's, in our "little" conflict over there.
He got shot up so badly during a combat insertion to a hot LZ, they retired him, and yanked all his certs, but he's a really great guy. Obviously, he doesn't talk much about his time and adventures, but he has told me he used to supply The Rock Pile, hovering so the ramp in back of the CH46 was on the pad, but the helo was hovering over the cliff edge. Amazing aviation skills, IMO.
Anyway, he did a lot of flights in the S-55 out of Tustin, going up the coast to The Presidio, for nav practice and training for boot pilots. Lots of stories there, too. I think the Navy/MC titled them H-34's, or is that a whole different bird? Sure looks similar to my untrained eye...

Anywho, looking good! Keep up the great work :D
Pat☺

I think we are talking H-19's/S-55's
The H-58/H34 was a little different:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sikorsky_H-19_Chickasaw

The Sikorsky S-58 was developed as a lengthened and more powerful version of the Sikorsky Model S-55, or UH-19 Chickasaw, with a similar nose, but with a tail-dragger rear fuselage and landing gear, rather than the high-tail, 4-post pattern. It retained the nose-mounted piston engine with the drive shaft passing through the cockpit placed high above the cargo compartment.

Very good work on these interior textures Falcon !
Believe it or not, these actually looks much better than the current (might be updated in future) VC textures of the payware S-55.

Thanks Daube. I took the textures and upped them to 4096x4096, redid the shading, added rivets and more defined ribs. The VC panel was reworked to add new background, bezels, screws and shading. Still a bit more to do.

I think I've gone as far as necessary on the interior. I'll zip everything up today or this evening depending on how things go here today and get it uploaded for those who are interested. The changes are to the "shared" folder, panel folder and livery folder.

I hope you publish you upgrades Falcon. To me this is an H-34 Choctaw. The Marine Reserve was flying them when I got to Nas Los Alamitos in 1969.

If it's anything like your normal work on improving them, I'm looking forward to it.

Great work, Ed. I'm also looking forward to that!

--> I really, really hate to ask because I don#t want to demote your work, but is there a "steam panel" without the screen to be had?

Cheers,
Mark

Actually Mark, not a bad idea. I added the screen simply to take up space as nothing on that side is usable during a normal flight anyway unless you move the eyepoint all the way over to the left seat or you set a camera view to show that position. I can move the screen out and duplicate the larger steam gauges from the pilots panel. . .probably what was on that side anyway.

One thing I do every time I install a payware Native FSX airplane is to look at the texture file type. . .if it's all bitmaps I convert them all to "dds" and so that's the case with the S-55. Unless I hear otherwise, that's the format that the files contained in the "shared" folder and the livery folder will be in. Of course the files in the panel folder will be bitmaps. Just a HU. I will be away from the apartment till early evening so none of this will be uploaded til later this evening.

First upload is complete. This one contains 4096x4096 "dds" textures. I am building a set that will be 2048x2048 and those should be posted in about an hour.
