Excellent video Ferry and with the "Black Badges" and the "unorthodox" actions of Capt Lorca, the video author could very well be correct about Discovery being about the beginnings of "Section 31" :applause:

I'm a big fan of STDs!!

Wait did that come out right? Star Trek Discovery episodes See STDs Where were your minds at? :)

I think this show has great potential. Maybe not enough to surpass STNG with Jean Luc which I think is by far far and away the best due to the examples of leadership innovation and interesting subplots. I look forward to many more STDs!

So tonight's episode S1 E5 "Choose your pain".....
A bit mixed opinion here.....On the one hand, I liked it...but on the other, IMHO, would have been best as a 2 part episode...that was a lot that happened in one episode...
 
Some additional food for thought.
Up until the Discovery, we had never really seen (in detail) the inside of a science vessel.....

And strangely enough, when we DO get to see the inside of a science vessel, it is during a time of war. All the other times, we see the "war vessel" during peace time - DS9's Dominion War excepted...

I like STD, but as a separate entity. It isn't Star Trek of old, and, as far as I am concerned, needn't be connected to TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, etc. I liked ENT as well, but it also didn't fit in as well - that seems to be the problem going back to a time before other things happened that are "canon".

What it has shown is that once you sift the noise (the loudest folks are always the haters), there's a solid fanbase.
Season 1 is 9 episodes and to be renewed after 6 episodes is truly stunning.

And of course, haters will always hate....just a matter of sifting through noise....

I'm pretty much in the middle (and new to the forum besides) but have been reluctant to post in this thread, since there seems to be a vibe of only one correct opinion allowed, which is unfortunate.

I much prefer an open/even exchange of views.

If you have been paying atttention, there a more negative posters (people) than positive ones...But if you want it to be a purely negative only thread, then I will cease posting so you can have at it...and you and Ivan can tear up the show with your hearts delight without any responses from me...

The renewal of the series for a 2nd season obviously must be a setback for those who were chomping on the bit & couldn't wait for it be cancelled after 1 season to in order to boast:
"..See, I told you so!..."

Panther, I hope none of this is upsetting you too badly. I don't tell anyone they have to like anything, but if you are as familiar with Nerd-dom as a think you are, you already know some superfans will never be satisfied unless they are themselves executive producers with absolute control over the director, actors, costumes, set design, special effects, and have unchallenged script approval. I remember the nerd outrage when BSG was rebooted and it was announced that Starbuck would be a woman. You'd have thought someone had boiled all their bunnies.

Doesn't upset me at all!
But the previous post before mine hinted that only one perspective was allowed in this thread - so I had to remind the poster that the negatives out number the positives...

You are 100% correct about the BSG remake & Starbuck and Boomer "sex change"...! There's always a core group that will never move past any "original series"....
 
Have you been over to jammersreviews.com ? They have a heated discussion about Discovery (and Orville) going on as well.
 
Personally, I have never relied on reviews to decide what I watch. I like it or I don't, on my own; thank you. I do like this one. It's not TOS exactly, but I don't think it ever claimed to be. This is turning out to be quite a thread.

Now that they are in a parallel universe (or so it seems) they don't have to stick as much to the original series...

And perhaps Stamets is turning into a 'Q' type of character?

Somewhere on the 'net....the Discovery staff stated that the Mirror Universe plays a large part in the series.....

I guess we shall see!
