This came as a horrible shock - INS Viraat to be scrapped!

Interesting that the article referred to Viraat as the "oldest aircraft carrier in the world". While it's true that until 2017 it was the oldest carrier in active service, once it was retired it could not claim that anymore, I think the oldest carrier still floating must be Lexington (CV-16).

Agreed. It should have read Worlds oldest 'active' Carrier.
 
A real shame. I do understand that it is quite expensive to maintain a vessel of such size as a museum piece, but it is a piece of naval military history that will be forever lost.
 
And it gets worse, the end result will probably be more of those horrible 'Made in India' Royal Enfield antiques!
