The south loses yet another NASCAR Cup event

They are simply moving the schedule around to gain the most attendance at each race. There are enough tracks wanting events to where two events at some tracks makes no sense. Kentucky will be a nice addition next year. Martinsville and Bristol are in no danger of loosing out.

Then get rid of Fontana, attendance at that track's two dates have been abysmal.

Bring back "The Rock" and "North Wilksboro", especially one date at North Wilksboro, a racing man's track and unique in all of NASCAR.

I don't know what the profit margin is for Fontana, but bringing in the bucks is what it's all about.
I doubt track quality and nostalgia are even considered. They are also making changes based on average weather conditions to increase attendance. I heard there will be about 12 changes to the schedule. That might be BS, we'll see next week.
 
Yes, NASCAR is trying to maximize ticket sales. I guess their logic is that if a race comes to a given track only once per season, odds are better that there will be high demand for tickets, meaning sell-out attendance and since supply and demand principles are in effect, ticket prices can be higher.

I would like to see Rockingham and North Wilkesboro get some Sprint Cup attention, those are great tracks. As for Fontana, I don't think they have ever had sold-out attendance. NASCAR did have to red flag a Cup race because of all the trash coming out of the stands and onto the track.

At least Kentucky is a 1.5 mile track. The 2 mile or longer ovals tend to become boring races unless there's a pile up and that's not racing. I like shorter tracks where drivers can pass and battle for position the entire length of the race.
