Wow! Thanks for the link. I followed all of the other links to read the three pages titled "The President and The Janitor," which provided a lot of the backstory to SSGT (USA Ret) Bill Crawford's life.

What a truly humble and remarkable man he was. Without exception, everyone who's ever earned The Medal have shared that singular characteristic: authentic humility.

One of the most inspiring men I knew was a retired O-6 with a military history that would be difficult for six men to accomplish. He enjoyed his retirement sweeping in a shipyard and driving a school bus.
 
Star Trek (TNG) watchers may find this story similar to an episode of that series. Young Wesley Crusher, a student at “Star Fleet Academy”, and part of a flight demo team of space ships, gets into trouble when they attempt a dangerous and un-authroized, but visually impressive, maneuver which results in the death of one of their classmates. The subsequent cover-up and attempt to blame the whole thing on the dead shipmate, lead by the ego-maniacal lead pilot, gets them all into hot water. It's the wise “grounds keeper” of many years that puts everything into perspective during a conversation with Piccard. A great episode that would go make a good “leadership training video”, if we must have those!
