That Royal Australian Navy bird looks "wrung out and stabled wet", Fnerg... Definately some action, that plane has seen.

So true. That photo was circulated amongst friends on the CWHM's Facebook page. It appears to be runup, or flight testing trials preCF-BDH markings, year unknown. The description of CF-BDH in the readme file touches on this time in it's history of events.

"...Eventually it was sold by the Department of Supply to Casula Auto wreckers, NSW, as Tender No.12354 for $550.00, resold and shipped to the USA aboard SS African Crescent where it was taken by road to Charleston Municipal Airport, South Carolina, and converted to a Crop Duster registered as N7469. Later, left to decay, the Firefly was bought by a Syndicate from the Canadian Warplane Heritage (CWH) as their first warplane acquired for restoration. The Syndicate then spent C$50,000.00 refurbishing the aircraft to Airworthy to fly to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. "

Thanks for that bit, Doug... I did read about CF-BDH in the read-me you provided too. I really like the "weathered" look of the old Aussie gal in the photo. That would be a real challenge to re-create that look in FS but I'll bet Matt "Smoothie" Winn could probably pull it off, as well as a host of others.

Having a ball, flying the Firefly too, mate. Wish you could be "Up Here With Me"... :icon_lol: LOL. Thanks again for your superb model. :salute:

WB271 Removing the Canadian Flight Supplement book

Hey guys, it's great to see the Firefly being enjoyed by so many. Thank you all for your kind comments and your tweaks to improve on her. I found something that may need a fix. I realized that in the final render of WB271, I mistakenly exported the Canadian Flight Supplement book as in the Canadian models, along with other components of the interior model. This is no big deal really, but it's a little out of place. So, a quick removal of that text book requires that you

A- Open Flight Sup.bmp from texture.WB271 folder in Martin Wright's DXTbmp program
B- Create an alpha template
C- Edit the Alpha to pure black 0,0,0
D-Save as 888 32bit

Voila, the book is "gone".

When I got permission to take shots of BDG's cockpit, I arranged to meet someone to escort me onto the wing. I had only seconds to get what I needed. I shot frantically as I could trying to get every detail covered in the very short time I was granted, all under the watchful eye of the crew chief. That's when I noticed the Flight Supplement next to the seat. So, I included it in the model because, in the real BDG, it's there, and I don't think they leave home without it. :wavey:

My CPU dictated to me towards the end that I had to leave that guy out, but I did build him. I opted for better detail in other areas. The build in Gmax is unlimited yes, but the CPU can only deal with so much. Basically, there is a limit infringing on my unlimitability.:isadizzy:
 
I just about have a paintkit ready but I need to know first, is just the exterior prefered, or the interior as well? Is everyone ok with Paintshop Pro layered .psp files?

Speaking for myself I hardly ever venture into the inside of the cockpit, but for those that do im sure the vc textures would help.

Many thanks for a superb rendition of the Firefly Doug.

All the time and effort you put into it has paid off.

I hope you don't mind, but attached is a brand new FM to try, built especially for this model.

I don't currently have a copy of the Pilots Notes or the A.P for the Firefly 4, 5, & 6, so there might be a few things that are not quite correct, (such as flap & gear trim changes) but I've used as much information as I could lay my hands on to build the FM.

16 Bit Textures

They are on the way to the library. I have an old computer with a stock "dinosaur" CPU, and the Firefly loads better now, than my original 32bit bmps, which I used throughout the whole modeling process.. I should have converted them a long time ago...lol

And thanks for the paintkit too, mate. I usually end up making a bloody mess of things when I try to do repaints, but I like to experiment, nonetheless.
