Ok, what causes this?

New install of P3D 2.4. This started happening after I set my control keys to by stick, rudders and throttles, etc. (not the likely cause) and adjusted some graphics settings upwards. Of course, I don't remember where they were before. Tried setting them back "downwards", but no success yet.

Update: Graphics and scenery sliders didn't fix it, so I rebooted the computer and now everything is fine again. No more Wonder Woman planes. Cranked up the graphics and scenery sliders again with no issues. Must have been a "glitch".

OT: I do really like the cockpit shadows in this sim. I didn't think it would be that impressive, but I was wrong...

From my experience, that can happen when you change display properties in the sim (or if you use sweetfx / nvidia inspector or something like that, and changed something there ) and don't close and restart the sim or don't clear the shader chache. I suppose the latter is the main culprit. So stopping the sim and clearing the cache also would have done it.

Cheers,
Mark

Where can the shader cache be cleared? Maybe a stupid question, but I'm a P3D neofyte... Noob, .... You name it! :D

Usually here:

C:\Users\.........\AppData\Local\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2

Dots resemble your user name, P3D folder name can vary depending on which version is used. Just delete the shader folder with it's ingredients, P3D will build a new one upon the next start.

I made a link on my desktop to that folder (and the other profile folder) to access it quickly!

I get those as a new aircraft is loaded and I go outside view. Happens almost every time, just on the first time outside the aircraft. Always completes loading, but might take 5-10 seconds. The more complex the aircraft, the longer time.

Good info, Mark. At the rate I've been loading and reloading paint schemes I work on, this will surely help my situation.

Rgr on good info. Thanks everyone. One other thing I have noticed is that P3D doesn't have that "cartoony" look that so many FSX people hate. But, the FSX water waves have a much more convincing illusion of movement than the stationary P3D waves. On the other hand, I do like the deeper blue color of the ocean, overall.

I also noticed the sluggish initial loading of textures. Usually the cockpit comes first, but once it's loadad, it works like a breeze, at least here.

Re the water: agree, the animated water looks great! Expecially when using ambient reflections. However, I hope LM continues to refine it. Some wake effects don't work properly, and the effect generally looks awkward and doesn't match the refined look anymore. Same, or even worse, are the wave effects on shorelines. It would be great if the waves and other water effects would be redesigned to match the great new technique used there.

Cheers,
Mark
