New NASCAR Rules For Kentucky & 1-2 Mile Races...

Hey All,

I like it. A racing series working to make it more competitive. That is racing - the cream will rise to the top. Other series could learn from NASCAR instead of playing favorites.

I will agree that clean air seems to give an unfair advantage to the lead car. We've seen guys who have not been leaders inherit the lead and just take off once they are out front. This might make the longer tracks more competitive, but I do hope that this part

will not end up with tires shedding their tread and needing to be changed every 10 laps.

It's a trade off. Harder tires hold together better and you get more laps out of them, but you cannot carry your speed through the turns and handing in traffic gets can get real sporty. Softer tires grip well and make the car handle great, but they don't last. Harder tires with splitter and spoiler to create down force, at least in my mind, gives drivers a car that grips the track so long as they don't get too close to another car, but the tires are not an issue. No magic bullets here, I just hope that using a soft tire that was not designed for a 1.5 mile or longer track does not end up coming apart after just a few laps at speed.

Generally speaking, I lean towards a harder tire.
OTOH, when it comes to aero...look at Truex Jr's car here from the right side door back to the spoiler....
