Hi Friends,
Anyone knows how to recover GMax damaged files (if it is possible)?
During the past week I suffered the "death" of my PC, but, fortunately, I saved the HDs with ALL my projects......BUT GMax I have installed at office tells me that a file is damaged and can't open it (it contains the G.18's VC....:censored::censored::censored::censored:).
I have a backup copy (UFFF!!!!), but I don't want to suffer again in the future!!!!

Hi Manuelle,

Have you checked for the autobackup files in "C:\gmax\autoback\" ?

You will find g-max creates autobak#.gx files - these are automatic backups of your last work. Please copy them to a new folder first, so that they cannot be overwritten by G-max, - you should be able to find a reasonably recent version of the VC amongst those files.

I hope this helps - good luck !

Hey Manuelle,

Remember the files are in a diff format that are backups. Not in 'gmax' format.

If that doesnt work, you 'should' be able to 'Merge' the parts into a new scene. Open a scene, click Merge, and merge the entire project over. That usually works also when the project wont open. This is sometimes caused by the Materials list being contaminated/damaged/corrupted.

Hope you get it back to working order.

Another thing that can help (besides backing up in two locations) is to have a secondary (copy) of Gmax on the HD as well as on DVD. This way, if Gmax itself gets corrupt, you can switch out the main files (copy/paste over) from the 'parts' installation and Voila, back in service again.
