Abandoned and Little Known Airfields

there was a small airfield up at the top of my ridge, called "Skyridge airport"..lol silly?..lol...anyway,one of my dads friends would take off from his private airfield down in the valley, land here at skyridge ,pick up two co-workers,and they would then fly to Foresthill where they would land at a small strip at the foresthill mill..then do the same in reverse at the end of the 12 hours shift.

on the "map" follow the main street down to the black box..its where my house is now.

NC, there was a short period of time a few years back when Cecil was in fact an "abandoned" airfield - after the BRAC closure but before it was re-purposed into an industrial park and Cecil Airport (KVQQ) so you may be remembering correctly.

Yep, makes sense. So glad I retained pictures of how it looked as a Naval Air Station. There'll come a day when pictures of that might be difficult to find. NC

At least the basic physical plant of old NAS Cecil is still there. NAS Glenview, where I joined the reserves in 1965 and started on my 27-year Navy adventure, has been totally wiped from the face of the earth and replaced by upscale housing and shopping malls. Only the tower portion of the original Hangar One remains intact. :grumpy:
