Hey Deacon, I am trying to do the texture for F35B red 01 when VMFA-211 was detached aboard the HMS Queen Elizabeth.
See screenshots section, page 115 post #2855.

here's my VMF-2 paint, hopefully now with the tiger in the right orientation?

Not being a specialist in US Navy colors, I've always been fascinated by those bright pre-war colors, but I could not see any system to it. However, it being the military, there is of course a system to all these numbers and bright colors, and the aircraft above is the third aircraft of the first section of VMF-2. How does that work?
The code, 2-MF-3 stands for 2nd squadron of Marine Fighters, 3rd aircraft. Each squadron was divided into 6 sections, so 18 aircraft in total. Each section had its own colors, Royal Red, White, True Blue, Black, Willow Green and Lemon Yellow for sections 1 to 6. Each aircraft in the section had a chevron in the section color on top of the wing. The lead plane had a ring in the section color around the fuselage, and a ring around the engine cowling.
The second plane had the upper half of the engine cowling in the section color, and the 3 plane had the lower half in the section color, which is what you see here.
For instance the 3rd aircraft of the second section would have the chevron and the lower cowling in white, with the code 2-MF-6.

So I thought it would be fun to paint a complete section, Red, or 1st section of VMF-2:

Now that I understand the system of colors and codes, I found one of my previous paints contains a mistake, I'll let you guys figure out which one..I'll be updating it later

Oh, and the colors on the tail refer to the carrier they were based on, using the same colors mentioned above, for instance Red for the Yorktown, Green for the Ranger, Yellow for the Lexington etc..
But only for the navy, the marines had the red white blue tails....I think.

Thanks Jan! It looks perfect. Would have made “”Hammerin’ Hank” Elrod proud!

That color system was pretty wild, wasn’t it? Thank God for radio!

Trusted providers of new aircraft

New to MSFS and this forum. Besides buying aircraft in-game ( all from Asobo/Microsoft? ) how do you know which other providers are reliable/trusted?

Major James H. Howard, who was decorated with the Medal of Honor for his combat action on January 11, 1944, while single-handedly defending a bomber formation from enemy attack while serving as the CO of the 354th FG in the ETO, originally got his start with the US Navy, and flew F3Fs while assigned to VF-6 of USS Enterprise, from 1939-1941. He then volunteered to go to China with the American Volunteer Group/Flying Tigers (where he flew 56 combat missions over Burma). After going back to the US as an instructor in the USAAF, he later became the commander of the 354th Fighter Group.

Here he is pictured in front of F3F '6-F-12' of VF-6, as well as later photos of him with the AVG and with the 354th FG/his P-51B Ding Hao!.

Hey Burnhaven,

Welcome onboard! I’m no expert, but I think most new releases for MSFS will be posted on here or elsewhere. From the subsequent conversations, I think you’ll get a pretty good idea of which releases meet your personal criteria for purchase.

If you’re looking for vendors of said aircraft, I think you’ll find many makers distribute through the same 3-4 shops, with only a few houses that self-sell.

Welcome to the madhouse! Any developer that posts here will be one that you can count on - they don't last long here if they don't put out quality stuff. I'd post a list, but I'm on my lunch break...

Beyond that, there are a few others, especially the Simworks Studios Kodiak and the Parallel 42 Freedom Fox. Both have receive rave reviews both here at on the official forum. Otherwise, feel free to ask around here. If you're curious about a plane, there's probably someone here that has tried it.

I just picked up the Kodiak today from Simworks :) After visiting a Discord channel by the Bush Divers, I started getting so interested in Bush flying I've temporarily abandoned DCS.

You'll never go back now! Bush is all about the joy of just flying and the challenge of getting into and out of some of the most challenging strips around.

There is a new update out. This fixes the control column animation, improves texture quality on the canopy, fixes the VR camera data, elevator trim in the Gulfhawk and a few other gremlins.Oh and further work on fixing the CTDs with some add-on sceneries.:engel016:
