I'm looking for the FS2004 F-8 Crusader modified MDL file that was posted in the Alphasim forum "The [Re-]Paint Shop" from the post "RF-8G, VFP-206 Finished" that removed the weapons pylons & Sidewinders. I'd like to use it on the Alphasim FS2004 F-8 Crusader with Russel R. Smith's RF-8G VFP-206 repaint.

This one is tricky.
I know Alpha did an RF-8 version, but it was the old school FS2002/CFS2 version (limited VC).
Let me rummage around in my Downloads folder and also check my FS2002 aircraft, this should only take about one day. :geek:

So, it turns out that I do have an Alphasim RF-8 installed in FS2002, but I'm pretty sure this isn't what you're looking for.

This is where FS turns into detective work. :geek:
How sure are you about that RF-8 mod for FS2004? Are you sure it wasn't for FSX?
The plane in the screen shot is the older RF-8 and it was also a mod but its a lot more limited than their later F-8.
The "VC" has no working gauges, just a blurry texture. The FD is lot less complicated, which is actually a nice touch for a "slick" RF load-out.
Animations are there, but its really simple stuff, I don't even think the tires "roll" and check out those spiffy afterburner effects.

Let me know if you want this plane. You could try to convert it up to FS2004 or it might make a nice AI aircraft.
Meanwhile, I'll keep checking my downloads folder. Mine is almost as big as zwobbie's. :wiggle:

The required file was "F8PylonFix.zip" which used to be hosted here for FS9 users. I have a copy which I will send to Kevin Driver later today so that it can be uploaded to the new resource library..

@ericrab that is the file you want - it is a modification of the circa 2005 Alphasim F-8 Crusader: https://www.virtavia.com/Freeware/ALPHA_F-8_Crusader_FS9.zip and with which you can use Russel R. Smith's RF-8G VFP-206 repaint; said repaint is certainly not for the earlier Alphasim RF-8A Crusader: https://www.virtavia.com/Freeware/ALPHA_RF-8A_Crusader_CFS2_FS02.zip

thanks @rohan

cheers!

I have this Alpha V2 with update by Bob Chicilo:

"This is an update for FS9 of the Alphasim F-8 Crusader. I have changed the panel view angle so it is easier to see out to fly and land. I changed the GPS, the clock, one angle of attack meter, the airspeed gauge, changed the size of the autopilot, and added a hud. I have also done the usual update of the flight dynamics so the aircraft is easier to fly and, I hope, closer to the real aircraft speed envelope. This is only for FS9 as a few things, such as the position of the smoke, make it less functional in FSX. For FSX, see the other update of this aircraft.

Unzip the file to a folder of your choice. Copy the aircraft folder to the main aircraft folder. Copy the effects to the main effects folder, no need to overwrite anything already there.

See the reference speeds section of the aircraft.cfg file for operating speeds.

Anyone: You have my permission to use any of my updates with the following conditions: One, you don't try to make money with them. Two, you don't try to hurt, or take something from anyone by using them."

available here: https://simviation.com/1/search?sub...im+Crusader+F-8+envelope+update&categoryId=31 but not helpful, because the unwanted weapons payloads are still there; only the pylon fix mdl, provided by @rohan meets the OP's requirements

an older thread on the identical subject here @ SOH also ought to prove helpful: https://sim-outhouse.org/sohforums/threads/rf-8-question.77174/
