My current puter is running VISTA Home Premium on a 64bit system . Before disaster strikes I would like to back up Entire C drive(FSX installed) plus a Western Digital(FS9 installed on). both are 500 Gig. The C drive has approximately 240 gigs used , the external hard approx 80 gigs. Why backup both . FSX and FS9 and the tons of freeware and payware . I have alot of payware on DVD disks but if a hard drive goes(C) or my external HD decides to take the trip . I want the ability to pop a disk into a new driveand restore previous and another external I have on the way . In a nut shell I just want the new external HD I have coming to be used strickly for backup for C and 1st external HD . Now that I have confused everyone(Including myself) I've been looking at Acronis True Image Home 2009 and a few others . It has mixed reviews but appears to have alot of good features. I want to make sure I get copied exe , zips , Windows Live Mail(not a nesessity) and anyother type files with a easy to use backup manager to retreive a file or restore everything .

I back up everything I got to one of these then unplug it >> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136186

hey_moe ,
Do you use any particular software for your backups or just let Windows do its thing ? I do plan on just unpluging it . I am constantly downloading , deleting , loading scenery/AC on a daily basis . Now , if I could just find Susies(da little wifee) credit card I would really be in business . I would save wear and tear on my card and be able to buy more payware at Xmas .:jump:(Maybe some good bourbon too)

When you hook up that drive the OS will pick it up and show the drive in " My Computer" double click the new drive and then click and drag or just copy and paste the whole Cdrive. Everything I buy including email I save to the external drive. One great thing about doing it this way is if your computer shorted out everything including the hard drive you still have all your purchases and programs on the back up drive. People who buy software to back up there computer is a waste of money...when you back up to a hard drive using software what good is that if the internal HD goes?

WD has there very own backup software for there hard/drives. I can't remember the name of it :banghead: but you can get the 64 bit version from there web site. My buddy just used it the other night to ghost an image to a faster drive (both are WD drives) and it worked like a charm.

I use Acronis. Trouble with backup software is, you never really know how good they are until you need to use them when something goes wrong !
