Attention all DC-3 fans !

Err, punishment is all I'll say and I know from the USCG in my 2nd year. Did one Historical HU16 Goat under the Hot Corpus Christi Sun in July. I wasn't found last year in Las Vegas's Summer, Lesson learned:devilish: and managed to tag along with the USMC TDA in Yuma AZ, missing out on buffing a Goat.

How or why did it get the nickname "Goat"?...its known as the Albatross normally isn't it?...just curious.for awhile there i saw a lot of them at local airshows and flyins..or as they call it at the Auburn (Calif) airport.."Air-fair",a carnival on wings..lol..that's my saying not theirs.lol.......uh..i should say that there were several of them in carson city nv for a time, several were put back together and flown in the area for several years.

Since the USCG had the HU16, it's unofficial nickname is the Goat and still hold today. Had one Ret Chief tell me Goat stuck as the HU16 was known to reliable, tough and stubborn in any situation and always ready. From what Ive heard from some former HU16 Goat crews and even current USCG AVDETS the HU16 Goat live's as the USCG's most successful Fixed wing Grumman Amphibian Aircraft living and breathing the USCG Motto even in Retirement. The USCG HU16 Fleet logged over 500,000 Fight hours with the last HU16 withdrawn March 10th, 1983 at 2:30PM. HU16 1240 of St. Pete CGAS was the most notable loss 20-22 Miles S/SW off Dog Island FL. The USCG had a 91 Strong HU16 Fleet and anytime us Coasties get our hand on one, we band together and save/restore them.

I was wondering if when the DC-3 is parked cold and dark with wheel chocks set, there could be a tired, forlorn-appearing but very determined AI guy, busy polishing the DC-3? :witless:

Last step when polishing

Used to fly a polished Beechcraft D-18. Our next one was painted!

Wife and I would spend an entire day doing top and bottom of horizontal stabilizer. Fortunately a whole crew of friends--enticed by beer and BBQ when done--often would help, and we could get the bird done in a weekend.

The last step was a polish with a terrycloth towel and corn starch.

Works very well on polished Ham Std props too, after the Flitz[SUP]®[/SUP] paste.

@Daveroo -- The HU-16 was nicknamed the Goat, I
believe, because of its ability to butt heads with waves.

Dull to polish...

Latest revision to the radials. Manfred added more detail as in rounder cowls and spark cables. Now presenting the Pratt & Whitney R-1830 radial!

If Manfred is updating the exteriors, is there a chance for a thoroughly civilized (cabin, pax door) version?

For now its just minor cosmetics fixes on the C-47. Manfred, Jan, and team want to get best possible experience out of the v.3 as we are able to bring to you guys.

Stuff like this... even down to safety wire on the screws!

Thanks, that is MORE THAN ENOUGH! This release will redefine freeware standards, well exceeding many pay ware issues. The world awaits with (patient) bated breath :)

Well, the upside is that I won't have to switch models or do awkward merges then.

Would be cool to have the Wright R-1820 with short cowl version. I did start working on the sounds for one, but didn't pan out. Although it was a shorty multi pipe version instead of the single long tube version.

Pre-alpha (2013) sound set for Wright R-1820 with shorty pipes from actual C-117D. Needs a lot of work still. Very busy with other stuff now.

Not too keen on doing any mesh work that basically involves modeling an entirely new engine. Except for the R2000, but that's too much of an oddball to warrant the effort for now.

They ran 'Flight of the Phoenix' on local TV last night (course had to watch it) :untroubled: but when trying to start the engine .... some reason my brain case drifted to this DC-3 and the engine start ups and radials .... course no shotgun shells and a Dennis Quaid .. or a sniveling spoiled model aeroplane maker :biggrin-new:

The original movie I hope. With James Stuart and Hardy Krüger! :very_drunk:
