Sue,
Hmmm, rolls and loops ... this aircraft weights as much as the B-26 Marauder (medium bomber) and more than the A-20 Havoc (light bomber).
Empty weight = 25000lbs; max weight = 37000lbs
I assumed that since it was lighter and more powerful than its contemporaries it would be more aerobatic. Sure its heavier than the A-20 but with much more powerful engines.
From Wikipedia:
Beech XA-38
- Empty weight: 22,480 lb (10,197 kg)
- Max. takeoff weight: 35,265 lb (15,996 kg)
- Powerplant: 2 × Wright R-3350-43 air-cooled radial engine, 2,300 hp (1,716 kW) each
Douglas A-26
- Empty weight: 22,850 lb (10,365 kg)
- Max. takeoff weight: 35,000 lb (15,900 kg)
- Powerplant: 2 × Pratt & Whitney R-2800-27 "Double Wasp" radial engine, 2,000 hp (1,500 kW) each
Martin B-26
- Empty weight: 24,000 lb (11,000 kg)
- Loaded weight: 37,000 lb (17,000 kg)
- Powerplant: 2 × Pratt & Whitney R-2800-43 radial engines, 2,000-2,200 hp (1,491 kW) each
But after comparing the figures I see its not that much lighter and not that much more powerful. Just more data and chatter to take under advisement.
