Hi normb, we need to consider the extraordinary abilties of all Bell UH1. One of these properties is the autorotaion ability. When I saw the first autorotation performance of an UH1D in Fassberg Germany I could not believe my bare eyes. I was flying there a 1000kg Bell47G2 with a just about autorotation ability and thenm u see the "big" Bird of cuadruple Mass in compare, wow. and the when the americans demonstrated an autorotation, it looked like they could have done it twice with the same stored kinetic energy in the massive rotor.
The second one right after was flaring abut simething maby 100 feet then skidding over the runway just to demonstrate - the impression kept in my mind forever.
when I started tweaking the UH1D, yes to increase the mass of Blades is one thing, but u need to to in certain ratio with the tailrotor. With the masses u increase the inertia. and with that u increase that magic kinetic energy similar to a real UH1... thats one thing - and then u do a couple oft testflight to refine possibly near to what I have seen in reality...
The other is that u saw the blades on their own, that happens when u view your maneuver with the built in viewer. So, before the review u restart the engine and afterwards u start the viewer, in real world the UH1 keeps its RPM quite well, did u switch the turbine off ? or did u try to use the governor ? - In real world I liked recovery maneuvers with the engine at idle and the a few meters above GL full throttle - that only works fine with a piston motor ... in the sim I just switch the engine off, to simulate real full Autorotations - no mercy lol
