Boeing C-97 V3 Update Query ........

MZee1960

SOH-CM-2023
Hi guys,

The release of the wonderful B-50 V1 by Manfred Jahn and Co. has caught my attention, and with it also the earlier release of the 'C-97 V3 pack' available here from our library.

I opted for this 'all in one' pack as it explained it contained all of the patches and updates pertaining to this fine aircraft.

I installed inside FSX as per instruction, loaded in FSX, found all at first seems to work fine - except for the VC view when looking out from the left-hand side captain's seat out the side window towards the wing shows 'no wing' present - only the wing tip marker light illuminated. At first, I thought perhaps I made a download error, so I re downloaded everything to no avail. Has anyone else experienced this issue of the missing left wing texture when looking out from the VC ? I have not found anything here in any forum post about this so I thought I would ask directly through a new post.

Here's some pics :

All textures for wings are present in outside view -

....but wing is missing in VC view -

This seems to be a very obvious issue, so I'm sure I probably did something wrong ? Just don't know what ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank-you,
MZ.

(EDIT : I am also finding that some scenery textures (ie. trees) will not load -remain 'black' when this aircraft is loaded and flying. If I switch to a different aircraft - all scenery is back to normal. At first, I didn't think this was related to the aircraft - until I read posts by some people in the 'B-50 v1' thread outlining these same issues. Some point to a 'gauge' which may be causing this anomaly ? )

Where did you find V3? I was looking in the library here and found only V2

Hi @grayeagle,

Please go to Warbirds Library, enter in search text box the word manfred, and click search. On page 10, about 3/4 of the way down you will find it.

FSX Boeing C-97 Version 03.zip

I am finding now that the missing exterior textures (wings) when viewed from the VC, as well as the failure of some scenery files (trees) to load may be not only related to this model, the C-97, but also the newly-released, B-50 as my post in the forum there describes. Hopefully an easy 'fix' . Fingers crossed.

In the time C-97 was launched i asked the same thing and the developers answered that the c-97 was not finished yet. So the lack of the wings in vc view :encouragement:
They said that it was going to be corrected, but i think new projects took priority.

I'm surprised to hear this as I assumed V3 was the finished product.

Perhaps now it will be looked at - fingers crossed. :jump:

Flaviossa is right. Even in V3 the C-97's don't have any VC wing views. I am not too sure now why I did that.

Not sure why VC wings views matter to people. I find when taxiing, taking off, landing - flying generally - that looking back at the wings for very long proves unwise . .

I think that mainly because BIG radials starting sequence is nice to see. I like! :encouragement:
@mjahn: No worries my friend! Your work is incredible!!!!

Two more good reasons it is nice to see wings from VC :

1) When aircraft ground shadows are 'on' , it just looks not right to see wing shadows on ground with no wing texture above to match.

2) When aircraft lights are on, it just looks not right to see 'wingtip lights' without the corresponding wings to which they are attatched to.

I love this aircraft nonetheless, but am hoping very much that this can be somehow corrected on this beautiful C-97 model. Seeing the wings from the VC will definitely add to the immersion. :jump:

"As for reports on issues with the default config I'd naturally like to get to the bottom of it and offer a cure if possible. For this it is always helpful if we can replicate the issue. To help us along, you could show the Monitor window and specify frame rate, scenery and location, dxt9 or dxt10, and possibly other suspicious detail. Monitor has a 'Test' subpanel where we can monitor (ha!) individual variables. Even if it should turn out that nothing can be done about a particular problem, we can at least warn prospective users about "known issues".

P.S. As for the C-97 VC not displaying any wing views I was able to replicate that - it doesn't have any. The B-50 has them, though.

P.P.S. Aircraft that only work if "cast shadow on ground" is disabled are unacceptable to me. I would tell users to get rid of it if that were the case."

Hi Manfred,

I have not been able to replicate the missing ground textures (trees) on subsequent flights when flying the C-97. Perhaps this was just an isolated incident that one time. Will keep my eyes open for any further missing texture issues.

Apart from this, the only other issues I found wrt the C-97 model were the missing wing textures when viewed from the VC (confirmed by yourself), and some default camera views as follows :

All pics taken near Orbx KPSP Palm Springs (running dxt9).

Ah, those are outside camera views, you get them when you 'A' thru the various spot views, don't you. To make them look less ridiculous you can zoom closer up. IIRC we put them in in as a makeshift alternative to proper wing views and then forgot all about them.

These days proper wingviews are a necessity I agree, If I cobbled up an interior with wingviews, would you guys test it here?

Manfred, I'm sure many of us would be happy to test and thanks for taking the time.

Yes, most definitely !

Thank-you, once again, Manfred, for this terrific model. :applause:

Hi Manfred, just PERFECT! Thanks for that! I think it´s safe to replicate to the other´s variations.
Port:

Starboard:

The wingview is wrong endeed. But someone can correct them easily. I will try to see if i can work them out.

Thanks again!

Okay thanks. Looking nice although perhaps I'll still move the wings a little further back.

Looking forward (or aft really) to the revised cameradefs.

This is what I see outside the window....

Slightly different from the one above.

Mine is the default VC zoom; I only pivoted to the left to see the wing.

Wing views that looks to be from the cockpit, so does look close to the virtual view.
