Clawson's SB2U joint conversion update

This may be irrevelant....

:wavey:
but didn't Thicko do a two-bladed wooden prop in his "Hurricane Mk.1" upload and would/could that be made to fit this? I am totally out of my league on this :isadizzy: so I just thought I would throw it in since I caused all this.
I will now return to my seat in the corner :running: ,sit down and....

Fibber, I'm the same status as you, all this mdl/air/cfg file tweakery is way above my level of expertise. I'm just hanging out to see how I need to adjust my VMSB-241 Midway textures so they fit whatever changes Allen has made. Is there another comfortable chair in your corner? :icon_lol:

I put a demo of it up on page 4 and your texture will not work.... I made a complete new texture for the whole plane. The texture is VMSB-241 of Captain Richard E. Fleming.

Tarps

Be Sure there is now lad, come on over, pull up a stool and have a neat Bushmills with me now..."Selante!"

Well then, that gives me more time to sit in the corner with Fibber and his Bushmills. :salute:

Allen, those are excellent repaint templates. They should all be so easy to work with. :salute:

Sláinte! to you too, Fibber! I love Bushmills too, you just give me an idea for toasting to the completed SB2U project!

Which, BTW, is taking shape real nicely. I can't wait to go home and try the beta model attached above.

Thank you Allen, The B24 Guy, TARPSbird, Bearcat, Fibber and everybody else who's contributing to this major upgrade!

Kelti...

:wavey:...I see that you got the spelling right:applause: Your Gaelic is better than mine, I guess that I have spent too much time on the rail listening to the people from Belfast!:icon_lol: No slur there, but they are known for a accent that is hard on the ear and to understand.
So I guess that I will reserve two extra seats one for Tarps and one for you!:ernae:

Ne pas oublier ces combats : SB2U Pearl Harbor 7 12 1941 et Vought 156F campagne de France mai juin 1940

Non, Dombral!

Nice skins, I hope you will upload them when the project will be completed! :applause:

In fact, all of the SB2U-3s purchased by Arméé de L'Air were delivered to the RAF after June 10, 1940. I guess/hope some of our talented repainters will provide us RAF skins, too....:wiggle:

To ALLEN:

I like the beta model a lot, the work you did on the prop is simply outstanding! It was well worth the effort, how good can look a prop driven aircraft anyway, if such a vital detail for realistic looks like the propeller disc looks louzy?

The cleanup and the correct texture mappings are turning this model into something very realistic and I like the engine solution as well. Even though it's nice seeing a 3d engine inside cowlings, framerate may suffer from the extra polygons, with the proper texture it looks great anyway, even if it's flat.

Are dp and airfile temporary as well or are they definitive? I am asking this because I noticed they are still from the stock SBD with the 1200 hp, 8-cyl. Wright engine, a single fuselage tank and stock weapons.

Does anyone know if the gun barrel protruded from the Vindicator wing leading edge? If so, I have a dp ready with a gun tube slightly sticking out of the wing.

Cheers!

...hate to say this but everything I see looks like the guns didn't protrude fom the wing. I will keep looking but some pics sure are hard to find of this bird.

The Prop disk is better tham most aircraft have already. The 3D engine had to go alone with the pilots it had and other interor parts as the model had to go on a diet.

The DP is done over all. If you want Dbolt weapons some one else will have to fit them and send me the DP as I don't use Dbolt weapons.

Haven't messd with the .air. It still the stock Wildcat. If some one wants to make a new one let me know.

As for the wing gun/guns.

Got all of the LODs done and tried the .air but I can't get it at all. Some one else is going to have to do it. I have the info for the engine fuel tanks and wings.

I went to the Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola in November 2011 and shot a couple not-very-good pics of the SB2U. The gun barrels in the wings (actually appear to be sleeves for the gun barrels) protrude out from the leading edge maybe 3/4" to 1" (see pic). Using the GunTubes objects will at least show there is a gun there when they're not firing. Sorry, I haven't worked with DPEd in a long time so I haven't got the dp line entries for Allen's overhauled airframe.

WE ALL..

..keep finding the same picture. That is why I had said different pictures of this bird are hard to find. But what I did find show the guns as recessed in the wing(s), but I will keep looking. Does anyone have the schematics of the plane? That should show whether recessed or protruding?

i have a b&w photo of a USMC sb2u3 with 4 guns protruding similar to this one. not sure that I can post due to copywrite.

I've looked all over Google and Bing. The ONLY SB2U that shows guns out of the wing is the National Museum of Naval Aviation one that was rebuilt in the 90s. I can fix a gun to the wing but I really don't see a point. None of the historal pics show any guns.

Also still looking for some one to do the .air.
