Douglas A20 Havoc

Thank you Milton

Milton, from the A-26 to the Aero Commanders, from the XP-47 projects to the F7F Tigercat and on, I have been enjoying your aircraft, and the ones you have worked on, immensely. You know, one of the most important lessons that I have learned in the last few harrowing years of my life, is the most precious commodity that one human can give to another is their time. And you, sir, have given much of your time to us in the form of these great aircraft. In that, I thank you very much. :applause:

mazdarodi, thank you for your very kind and thoughtful words. You are most gracious Sir. The team members over the years represent some of the best available for freeware work and it is their contributions that made the aircraft what they became. I have been very fortunate to experience their gifts to the community through our projects.

The attached file is a good summary of the DB-7 and A-20 variants and their use throughout the WWII era and theaters. This will likely stir the pot a little and give ideas for future paint schemes.

The number of variants I do will be somewhat limited as there are so many configurations (noses, nacelles, fuselage differences, armaments, etc.).

I intend to focus on the A, B, C, and G (late); uncertain yet about the J but a possibility.

Love this picture of a freshly completed A-20 being pulled off the assembly line.

I am currently working on the virtual VC fleshing out all the right side instruments, radios, and switches. Lots to do yet.

Got to love the G version with all guns!

You bet Nathan. I really like all the versions; the early ones had their appeal as well.

Still plugging away in the VC; will take some time yet.

Take your time, I know its been ages since the only REAL flying A-20 got restored, I can wait for the A-20 in FS9

Speaking of which, if anyone is going to be attending Airventure at Oshkosh at the end of next month, Rod Lewis' A-20 Havoc, the only one flying in the world (completed/flying since last summer) - the same one I've posted a bunch of photos of to this thread- is slated to be making its first public airshow debut at Oshkosh this year: http://www.eaa.org/en/airventure/ea...havoc-an-a-20-is-coming-to-airventure-oshkosh

Oh that's excellent news - maybe there'll be some nice video material as a result. Certainly would be indispensable for sound wav. resources.

Yep Rod is bringing his A-20 to OSH, now I wish he would bring it to Wings Over Houston as well!

A-20A/B/C Havoc Assistance Request

Currently working on the A-20A/B/C variants adding a glass nose and upper tail gunner canopy.

I have lots of reference for the gunner's area but none for the nose interior except the left side.

Does anyone have better reference for the bombardier's area needed to help flesh out the VC interior and exterior appearance of inside nose items.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Although I won't give up, I now realise how few pictures there are from the interior of the nose section. :dizzy:

I have been searching all evening and haven't found anything usesful so far.....

Huub

Milton,
No doubt there will be someone with an english version (or translation!) of this cutaway, but gives an idea. There seems to be a circuit breaker board and some dials?

Have you got the excellent Crowood Douglas Boston Havoc book? If not I'll send it over, is it still b$jabb?

Also unfortunately the pilot's handbook/notes doesn't show anything useful.

Looking very good as well!

Cheers

Shessi

Huub, Shessi, I appreciate your efforts. You can appreciate how tough the task of getting the nose interior build correct when reference material is scarce. I know you experience the same with your projects.

Gotta keep looking; maybe someone will uncover a treasure trove. :)

Thank you :applause:

I have 6 or 7 pictures of the Bombardier's station in my A-20 book. I'll see if I can get them scanned in tomorrow after work. I have a ton of info on the pilot's station, just as an FYI.

That will be most appreciated Sir; thank you. :jump:

Hi,
The 1945 film 'The Way To The Stars' features lots of Bostons and some very fine English accents by the look of the cast! There may be interesting and/or helpful shots of the bombardier's place. I haven't seen it, but it is available on youtube.

Andy.

Also known as 'Johnny in the Clouds'. Not me, the film.

Here are the images. The last one of the panel, I'm not sure if that panel was in the Bombardier's station or the cockpit. I have another panel that is labeled as the cockpit bomb panel so this m,ay be an adjunct to it, but I scanned it JIC.
