Douglas C-47 v3 Livery Thread

I wonder what happened to Hani Michael and his American Airlines repaint.Heard nothing from him about that or other repaints in ages.

Cheers Chris

So far so average.... trying to get the left side right on AEQ .... with all the differences of font....and sloping to rear....and probably needing to taper as well. The higher up on the fuse the more distorted the text will be near the tail as it wraps.

Still doesn't seem like it ever cleared the door anyway....in spite of the different set-out.

The text looks like it needs some serifs still...and I can do the 'Bovril'....just not sure with the rest...like the 'Shell Co.' and the Whiskey.

attachment.php

Edit.....tapered the 'air mail' text and managed to get the 'singapore' onto the door hinge.....heaven knows why it's 180% bigger than the side panel....could have been same size and made the painter's life just that bit easier..;)
....and it'll only ever look 'right' when square-on in elev.

attachment.php

And for the curious....here's the text/graphic on the right side....like I said....gotta be painted by the Myopic Twins...

There is nothing demeaning about that paint job. They can't all fly around as flying relics of the war. They did their job and were retired. Time to move on and use them to bring more people into the fold of aviation. It draws kids to itself like bees to flowers. It's the best use of that old metal!

JAFO I reckon they had a signwriter do the job for them originally not the boys in the paintshop. Then again maybe one of the aircraft repainters did it, all I know is even up until recently real life aircraft repainters were far and few between, because in real life it was a bastard of a job, stripping off the old paint cleaning up the surfaces and then applying the new paint.

Old war story, many moons ago I new a gentleman of means who took delivery of a brand new BE58 with a very fancy paint job from the United States, looked great was ferried across the pacific no problems, it was being inspected by the engineers in OZ and they thought it looked strange, closer inspection revealed, no rivet tops anywhere at all, yep the repainter in the US had burnished them all off because they spoiled his work of art, a wonder the thing stayed together, the aircraft was a write off.

Keep up the good work I am very impressed!

Worse still [almost]...there was this guy who embraced the [then] new technology of CDs ....and had bought about 200 of them before even buying a player....and to 'protect' his purchases carefully engraved the labels of each with his name....taking care NOT to damage the underside [read] side....

Anyone who knows how a laser reads a compact disk will likely be cringing about now....
Suffice it to say there were several tens of thousands of dollars of unreadable duds in his collection...;)

Edit....meanwhile....back at the ranch....

Probably as close as I can get when there's a wing in the way, but certainly an improvement on the original assumption/s...

"Great look, I like her so much.
Any chance to see this one uploaded somewhere ?

Thanks

Gérard"

[Quote wouldn't work for some reason]...
Yes, I shall upload this one presently...though being a 'what if' I thought I'd also 'add' the 3 extra windows first...;)

The query I now need to ask is....what's the best way of uploading revised paints....as a separate 'V2'-style download....or an edit of the existing upload- replacing the old files?
I have a few now that 'need' to be released as revised....namely the TAA VH-AEQ and the 'Melbourne's Gooney Bird' VH-OVM.

Added a few more tweaks to this one [and the extra 3 windows] so it's about ripe for upload...
