F1 sound

It's really a result of the hybrid drive train, the turbo is driving the energy recovery unit and is muffled by the process, and of course, only a single pipe works.
Never thought much of the shrill V8 sound, the loudest F1 power plant ever for me would have to be the BMW turbo inline four as used in the first half of the 1980s.
So loud they made one's eyes bleed and made the earth vibrate.
Come to think of it, all the turbo era engines were like that!
At the AGP this year the 'New Generation' F1 cars were so quiet that we could talk in normal tones ...................:banghead:

Yes, they make a different sound and are less noisy, but they've also cut engine capacity from a 2.4 liter V8 to a 1.6 liter V6, added a turbo and several energy recovery systems, cut fuel consumption from 160-170 kilo to under 100 kilo per race and are only marginally slower. (Less than 10 KPH average in the first race which, unlike last year, included a short safety car period!) According to rumors the Mercedes engine still delivers 580 hp plus 160 hp from the electric motor, though higher estimates have been heard too.

Here's another video made during testing:

Not too bad, right?
