Flying Heritage Collection IL-2 Sturmovik (New Videos)

Bomber_12th

SOH-CM-2025
I had to post these here - some superb video footage from some of the test flights of the Flying Heritage Collection's newly restored IL-2, the only example in the world that it is flying. Footage was made in Russia, where the aircraft was restored. It will be heading by ship to the FHC's museum facilities in Everett, Washington, very soon, where it is schedule to fly as part of the museum's "Fly Days", when it will be flown together with the museum's original Russian Front-veteran Fw-190A-5 (that will be a spectacular sight to see!!).

Restored to original condition, the only departure from the original is that the powerplant is an Allison engine, an interesting detail of which, is that the Allison is a counter-rotating example from a P-38, so that the prop turns in the same (opposite to that of the conventional rotation) way as that of the original Russian engine that powered it during WWII. The decision was made to install an Allison, due to the rarity and lack of spare parts that are left in order to keep one of the original Russian engines airworthy and operating reliably (though FHC has possibly hinted that eventually the aircraft will be re-fitted with an original powerplant at a later date).

Wow, that's good stuff! Thanks, John! Quite a beautifully restored ship.

On a related note, we need special textures and land classes in FS just for Russian airports... That rustic look, with grass growing up between the concrete sections, that would be cool! :icon_lol:
