i dont have FSX installed at all,im wondering..are there FSX items,be they aircraft, scenery, other, that HAVE to be in FSX before they can be moved to P3D?

please remember..im a newby (To P3D) AND im still installing things when i can ,and then checking each time i add something.i dont even have a way to setup my flight controllers just yet...anyone in california or nevada..or even southern oregon who ,has carpenter skills (i do somewhat, but i cant do much without being in my powerchair) who wants to come help me????? :untroubled: :eagerness:

Dave,
I always keep a copy of FSX installed just to allow me to install thing into that and then transfer them across into P3D. I've never had any Migration tools at all and I've never had any problems, the only exceptions being very complicated addons (FS Labs Concorde) and most of the Flight 1 gear. It's also worth copying the FSX.exe and putting a copy into the P3D folder.

Alternatively you could spend $13 on the estonia migration tool and never gave any hassle. You still can't use it with Flight1 or some of the wrapped installers like FSD. But about 95% of all my payware FSX stuff works with it.

Dave,

IMHO things are best installed anew in P3D. I have lots of addons but have no FSX installation anymore. Some things require a dedicated installer for P3D but that is a small minority.

As a developer I keep a copy of FS9 and FSX on my computer even though personally I have transitioned totally to P3D. In transitioning I copied all the gauges and effects from FSX to P3D that were unique. Another thing that was helpful, after Mark (roger _wilco) pointed it out, was the ability P3D has of pointing to external addon scenery. With all that I had in FSX this was a plus.
With complicated addons that have a wrapper you can create a false Microsoft games/FSX folder system and install it there then copy the related files to P3D.
There is more then one way to skin a rabbit, don't like cats.

Funny you say that...I actually just install them INTO FSX (which I keep for this reason) then point P3D to the FSX location folder for a lot of my scenery...saves on double storage use!

I agree, the Estonia Migration Tool works very well with installers that would normally look for the FSX installation before running. I've installed a ton of addons, both scenery and aircraft without any problems. Honestly, the only time I had problems with it was while FSX was still installed. . .did some really weird things to the FSX installation sometimes, for no apparent reason.
