Game of Thrones - need feedback on something

At the end of the second season of Game of Thrones there was the big battle in which Stannis Baratheon and his army tried and failed to take Kings Landing. Much of their defeat was due to the planning and actions of Tyrion Lannister (the little midget dude.) Tyrion planned and initiated the use of the flammable substance that burned most of the ships carrying Stannis Baratheon's troops. He also came up with the plan to use the subterranean tunnels to outflank the surviving Baratheon troops and launch a surprise attack at they tried to breach the gate.
Now enter his father, Tywin Lannister, who comes on the scene just as the battle is almost over and takes all the credit. When Tyrion Lannister awakens during his convalescence, Lord Varys (the large bald eunuch who is the whisperer) is there to tell him that his father will be taken all the credit, that his actions in the battle will not be recorded in history, that he is no longer hand of the king, and that his bodyguard, Sandor Clegane (the "hound", the man with the badly scarred face) has been stripped of his title and sent to other duties.

My question is why? Why did Tywin Lannister do this to his son? What was his purpose and end game in doing so?

In the book, Tyrion also had a large iron chain built, that they hid under the water, then snapped up, that stretched across Blackwater Bay trapping the fleet before the Wildfire was lit.
Was hoping to see that detail, but what they had on the television series was pretty dramatic enough anyway.

Boy, the third season, first episode was packed!
That hour went by waaay too fast on Sunday, LOL. :icon_lol:
I must have MORE!

I have discovered that you have to peruse the net and read all the various wiki's there are about Game of Thrones to learn about the back history of all the various houses and characters to understand all of what is going on. Reading all that stuff makes it SOOOO much better when you watch the episodes. There are many little statements that various characters make that you totally miss the meaning of if you haven't read the wiki's.

On another note I can't wait for those dragons to grow up and start roasting people and reproducing to make even more dragons. It's gonna be interesting.

Amen to that!

After getting on board with the show during Season 2, I've now started reading the books - quite a lot more detail, though easy to relate between the two media types.

Thrones marathon this weekend me thinks ;)
