GamingServicesUI.exe stops working, cannot load sim

I have not been able to start my sim for the last 4-5 days. When the initial loading screen opens, if there is no update to download, which includes reinstalls, within seconds, the error window pops up saying that GamingServicesUI.exe has stopped working, giving the usual BS about notifying M$ and checking if there is a fix, and notifying me. (That notification hasn't worked since WIN7, I don't know why it's still used.:mad:) Closing the notice window shuts down the sim. This ONLY happens with MSFS2024, no other app or game has the symptom. I have uninstalled Gaming Services, (A part of the xbox app,) and uninstalled MSFS2024 at least 2 dozen times, while following the instructions in the MS Sim forums, the XBox forums, the MS Windows Support forums, and myriad others. Nothing works. The ONLY thing I have not done yet, is a complete wipe of my C: drive, and reinstall Windows. I wish I had bought my copy through Steam. I don't have 1/10th of the problems with Steam as I do with XBox.
 
In the meantime, I found this about this issue:

Press the Win+R keys and type services.msc, and press enter

In the Services window that appears, look for:

IP Helper
Xbox Live Auth Manager
Xbox Live Game Save
Xbox Live Networking Service
gaming services
Windows Update

Double click on each one, under "Startup types" change to "Automatic", Under "Service Status" click "Start"

Restart your Windows and check if everything works correctly.

The instructions you posted are one of the many I haven't seen, yet. I'll try them.

One of the attempts had me doind a safe boot, then WIN+R, regsvr32 ntdll.dll It would not run because the DllRegisterServer would not start. Nor would the UnRegisterServer. The fix for that was to uninstall ntdll.dll, and reinstall. I did, same thing.

You can easily repair Gaming Services with the Xbox app on your PC:
Search for Xbox in the search window on the taskbar, or open Start-Apps and scroll down to Xbox.
Click on your user name in the top left corner.
Select Support in the drop-down menu.
Click the Gaming Services Repair Tool button.
Click the green Start repairing button.
When repair is complete click the close button, quit the Xbox app and launch the sim.
 
Thanks tiger. Didn't work. I've spent the last three days scouring the internet for fixes. I've tried close to 50. None of them work. This started with the update that downloaded last week. Everything had been working fantastic till around the middle of last week. I'm retired now, live in a cold climate, and the days just run together, so I don't keep exact count. When it first started, the sim would shut down when I closed the error message, then would successfully start in the background at the start of the opening video. Then, after the update this Thursday, it quit loading in the background. If I uninstall, it reinstalls the basic parts in the XBox app, then when the opening screen with the bush plane comes on, and it says "checking for updates" in the lower right corner, immediately the error window pops, and that's it. If I don't close the error notice, it will stay there with the "checking for updates" going for as long as I leave it. When I close the error message, the sim closes to desktop, immediately. I even tried downloading the beta. No change. I am not wild about reinstalling windows. Mine is an online purchase from Best Buy, Win 10 Home, bought for this new computer build. Immediately on loading, before the rig even finished a full boot, it started downloading and installing Win 11, and has been nothing but trouble since.

I have uninstalled, and reinstalled the Xbox app, MSFS2024, and even just the offending dll, ntdll.dll, so many times I've lost count. I've emptied the different cache folders multiple times, nothing. I'm just about ready to remove the NVME card that has the C:/ drive on it and install a new one, after I get my income tax return. That will be a last ditch effort.

Real headscratcher is, MSFS2020 loads just fine!!??!!:mad::mad::mad:

Maybe you've tried this one already, but if not it should fix the "checking for updates" hangup:
Your FS24 may be "checking for updates" because your Xbox Credentials cannot be verified.
These "credentials" are your digital proof of ownership files and they are checked every time you launch MSFS. They can become corrupted after a CTD for example, but they're fairly easy to re-set.
First of all, log out of your Microsoft Store account and your Xbox App account.
Then, in the search window on the taskbar, type credential manager.
In the Credential manager window, under Manage your credentials, select Windows Credentials on the lower right.
There'll be quite a list of entries, and most of them will begin with "XblGrts". These are your MSFS credentials.
Click on each XblGrts entry and select Delete. Don't worry, once you've deleted them all they'll be automatically re-created when you reboot Windows.
Once you've rebooted Windows, log back in to Microsoft Store and your Xbox App and FS24 should launch as normal again.
 
Thanks Tiger1962. No, I hadn't tried that one, yet. Just finished it, and it didn't work. In fact, it caused the GameServicesUI.exe to not work with FS2020 now. However, 2020 still loads in the background once the error window is closed. But 2024 won't. I think what caused 2024 to stop loading in the background is that I tried loading from the shortcut on the desktop, instead of using the xbox app startup. But it could have been something else, also. Whatever it is, it stays in the system once there.

I'm getting ready to do a Register purge. I've done it before, and have had success. I use the search function so I don't touch anything not related to the program I'm working on. However, WIN10 and WIN11's registers are so bloated they have become half the darn size of the Windows program.

Do you happen to have an AMD chip with the nVidia app installed? If so, try removing the nVidia app and see if that helps. I put a warning about this on the FS 2020 forum.

I read your thread, then checked my apps. No nVidia apps listed. I'm doing a search of the C:/ disk now for the 190_E658703.dll listed by Priller. All of my crashes are caused by the GamingServicesUI.exe crashing. In the error report it points to the ntdll.dll file not registering. I've repeatedly deleted the file, which is reinstalled by the xBox app. It is ONLY affecting the MSFS sims, nothing else, (SO FAR.) I have not gone back and tried any of the previous sims, as they have not been installed on this rig. I have all my purchased resources for them on HDDs attached, plus GBs of dwnlds, and the programs, just not installed. So far, 2020 still loads in the background after closing the error window, but 2024 is a lockout.
 
I have FSX on Steam, it works fine, so the problem, on my rig, is XBox related. I have ONLY the two MSFS versions on XBox, and MS Solitaire, which works fine.

Yes, I keep my rig set on "install updates when released." I also check for updates regularly. It was after one of the updates recently that this problem started. The headbanging wall part is that I have uninstalled and reinstalled countless times, both the Xbox app and 2024. 2020 has been reinstalled twice. I've done both with the community folder moved away. No change.

I have been busy doing other stuff, so haven't started a register check and purge. The last time I did one was in WIN 7. I don't remember what it was for, but it took me 2 hours. It fixed the problem, I do remember that. I just did a deep search for anything that had the program I was working on in it, and deleted the entry. I've looked at some things in the WIN 10 registry, and it is 2-3 times larger, so I'm guessing the WIN 11 one is worse. I need to just set aside a full day to do it. And yes, I know, BACK IT UP FIRST!

I thank everyone for the help you've offered so far. This is just rediculous how one single, small file can be corrupted somehow, and leave a permanent footprint that seemingly cannot be erased, even with totally new downloads, and from different sites, even!
 
There comes a point with problems like this where I make sure all my personal data and settings are saved on another drive and just flatten the system from orbit and reinstall Windows from scratch. A couple of hours to install Windows and all my apps and games, which is a pain, but when you're done the speed and stability is like you've bought a whole new PC and no weird quirks for a while. And you know that's going to take a couple of hours, vs potentially days troubleshooting issues like the one you're having.

I tend to agree, Denny. I could easily clone my C: drive, I have the program, and the room. I just need to quit procrastinating and do it.
 
Well, I'm back in the air again. A bunch of app updates were in my Playstore catalog a few days ago. After doing them, everythings back to normal. Well, as normal as it can be with the way the sim is, except, now, over half my 2020 MSMP aircraft won't let the sim load. Disable them, and it loads fine. I've been going through them one at a time, . So far almost half way, can't find one that causes a problem by itself. However, I have found a couple that used to work fine, no longer work. The Carenado Staggerwing won't start from cold and dark, and if flight started in the air, has no throttle response nor mixture control. When starting on the runway, the engine slowly loses power to idle while in flight after 3-4 minutes. The NX Cub won't roll, regardless of PB position, and removing wheel chocks. Same with one of the Piper twins, forget which. Frustrating.
