• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

Google Operating System.

Google announced the introduction of a free OS under development. The way I understand it, the OS is placed off your computer and it is accessed on-line. Am I reading right here ?? Sounds interesting.

From what I have been reading you have to have Chrome installed. A good point a SOH member brought up in a earlier thread is internet security. I wonder if we can us our current AV and AS.

so you have to have an OS to access the internet, to access your OS?

I became a Chrome user by accident, after I tried rolling back an IE8 install.
Be aware, you can't...OK you probably can, but you know more than I do...
I find it very trim, load times are fast (no plug-ins to speak of yet, probably!)
And if you have given yourself to Google, it seamlessly offers you the full diet of Googlisms available.
I'd be very interested in a Google OS.
Ironic isn't it?
MS were ordered to unbundle their browser from the OS, Google are simply reversing the process! :bump:

Been using the Chrome browser on Vista home premium 32 bit for 2-3 months now. Very happy with it, haven't had one buggy thing with it ....no viruses. I'm very interested in the OS thing so far.

I have played with linux for years, and I always compaired it to winders, and I always go back to winders. (except on a server) Linux is a pain in the BUTT.
But is the safest thing out there, just harder to use/work out bugs.
M$ has you, and knows you can't live without them, a must have.

Google will be another version of linux,

google could come out on top if they re-invent's the wheel, like making a new OS (operating system), (non linux, non apple and non windows)
now have it open scorce and give the code to the hackers and virus writters,
the wheel keeps turning
