Our cats love to watch the birds outside. Fortunately, for the birds sake, we didn't let the cats out.

Wow, NC, what a crew !:jump:

When we lived in Texas, our cat would lay up on the window sill and look at his empire and birds, particularly Bluejays, would gather in the trees and raise a ruckus at him! He would sit there and sleepily blink in the way that cats have of saying, "ho-hum".

dang, it's a freakin zoo!:costumes:

You better hope they don't decide on a mutiny to get a chance at going outside, they look like they could mean bizness!

It's probably no surprise that we rarely see any squirrels........ There are 16 outside cats. Mice don't get too close to our house, either. And in the spring, it is not unusual to see the cats "circling the wagons". They'll all be surrounding something, like a mouse, or even baby snakes..... They don't have a chance!

hmm.. who let the dogs out -> who let the cats out :woot:

Truth be known, the cats are just hoping a dog will get let out and come over to be lunch.

When I was young ( yeah, back in the last century) our Siamese did $300 worth of damage to the neighbour's dog.. a city K-9 squad member... the police apologized to my mom and paid the bill - the cat was back asleep on the front porch long before the dog got to the vet

navychief you are not alone. We had 8 cats two weeks ago plus a dog. My favorite cat had epilepsy for the last two years and died at the vets office the day I had throat surgery. We got the call the next day. I was going to keep the last stray as a replacement but did manage to find a great home for him after I had him neutered.
We are down to six now to keep and I tell the Dr. we only have two. Small white lie as what he does not know wont hurt..

Having so many animals also means it is nearly impossible for my wife and I to go anywhere for longer than few hours. Not exactly what I had planned for retirement, but that's life, I guess.

NC, I know what you mean about not making any plans for anything longer than a day trip. 3 dogs, 3 cats and a bird here.

We've got 2 dogs and 2 cats and the cat litter bill is bad enough, food too. I can't imagine Pete's bill for that stuff. let alone food for them all. :faint:

Pete, did you have the inhouse cats declawed? Ours are ripping the furniture down in the family room to pieces. They love that stuff that's supposed to keep them away it. I love cats but this is getting out of hand. Couch and love seat down there are only 4 years old but they're starting to look like they went thru the Iraqi war.

Gary,

I can certainly sympathize/identify with the destruction that cats claws can do. We do not believe in declawing, as it is akin to torture on a cat. Most people do not realize how much feeling is in a cat's claws. The best way, I guess, to compare it, would be if we were to have our finger tips amputated. When a cat's claws are removed they have to learn to walk on their stubs, you might say.

But damage to our belongings does take place. We have a leather sectional sofa. One end of it has really taken abuse by one specific cat: our Siamese, "Twist". I/we are not happy about the damage, but I long ago quit getting too upset about it. Doesn't do anything, except raise my blood pressure, and the IRS already does a bangup job of that.

Feeding our menagerie is very costly; you are correct. I won't even mention a figure, but am sure you guessed it is a tidy sum.

Pete

No I don't believe in declawing either Pete.... and for the same reasons you gave.

I'm trying to find something that will keep these two from using the furniture as a scratching post. The Hartz Stay Off seems to work a little bit. But the couch is in the basement family room and we can't watch stuff down there all the time, so it takes it's licks.. just gotta live with it.

We have a couple battery operated shock mats. It works for most of our cats, but the Siamese is smart. He tests it to see if the battery is dead...........

LMAO... yeah they are smart. We have a female that's half Siamese and she's smarter than all h3ll. The wife spoiled her from the moment her daughter dropped her off at the house. We don't see much of the other female, she was abused and is a little touched in the head. Hides all day and won't let anyone but the wife or I get close or touch her. Just to try picking her up you need elbow length welders gloves. She comes unglued with that, and I've got some good scars to prove it too.
